In 2023, our staff would like to take a look at a Virginia/DC high school team that had a big week and earned the honor of Team Of The Week.
This week the award goes to the Collegiate Cougars. The Cougars are the current #21 in the Power 25. The Cougars were our pick for the sleeper in VISAA DI in 2023 for many reasons, one being their potent offense. Collegiate showed that these past seven days of play, running up forty-eight runs over the course of five games.
This past week the Cougars took down two highly ranked opponents, beating #11 Benedictine 7-4 on Friday and following that up with a 8-4 victory on Saturday over #9 Paul VI.
While the pitching staff has done a solid job holding the run totals down and getting quality starts, it is the offensive production from the four-headed monster that has been the driving force. Hayden Rollison (UVA-football), Hartley Rahman (JMU) and the sophomore bash brothers, Jett Bristow and Carter Mitchell, have been lights out so far this year. Those four have combined for twenty-six hits in five games, including a few homeruns along the way.
Because of their five win week, quality of wins, and how they are winning, the Collegiate Cougars receive the Team Of The Week for week one.
