Last Thursday, Osbourn and Osbourn Park faced off in their season finale in a Cedar Run District game. OP tabbed sophomore lefty Chase Allen for the start and Osbourn went with senior righthander RJ Donahue (New River CC). 

The Eagles scored first in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of a leadoff walk and then using some old-school small ball to get the runner to third, where he was able to score on a wild pitch. OP answered in the top of the fourth when Toby Rhodes launched a 2-run home run to left to give OP a 2-1 lead. 

That 2-1 lead would hold up as the story of the game was both pitchers. Donahue was a tough luck loser, allowing just those two runs on two hits while going the distance. Allen and Eli Laughman combined to throw a no-hitter for Osbourn Park, with Allen going 6 innings with 8 strikeouts and Laughman punching out one in a perfect seventh inning.

Chase Allen LHP / 1B / Osbourn Park, VA / 2025

Allen has a lankier athletic frame, some strength present and projection left to it. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders closed and level as he strides out, closed landing for some classic lefty crossover, hides the ball and creates some deception. Very short loose quick arm action from a three-quarters slot. Fastball was 80-83 in the first inning, tailed off to 78-80 in the second and third before returning to 80-83 in the fourth, and he held that through the sixth. Velo drop seemed to be him adjusting his mechanics as he battled control in those innings. He started working with with much more rhythm and pace to his delivery in the later innings and things seemed more connected. Fastball has late armside run that also gets a bit of depth to it. Very comfortable landing it to glove side, with righties and lefties at the plate. Showed a slider at 70-73 with sweeping 10/4 break, didn't use it much, but landed a couple of good backdoor ones in his later innings. Athleticism, frame, and arm action suggest there is more in the tank, Allen will be one to watch.

 

 

Jake Gunning C / 1B / Osbourn Park, VA / 2025

 

 

Elijah Laughman RHP / 3B / Osbourn Park , VA / 2025

Laughman is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has strength present. Operates from stretch, gets a lot of drive from his lower half and explodes down the mound. Short loose quick arm action, low three-quarters arm slot. Throws with some effort and intent. Fastball was 83-85, touching 86, pitch gets a bit of downhill angle and has some heavy boring action to armside. Showed one slider at 72, only saw about 10 pitches, could be an interesting arm to catch up with again this summer.

 

 

 

Toby Rhodes C / 3B / Osbourn Park, VA / 2024

Rhodes played shortstop in this game, he has an athletic frame with some strength in his lower half. Defensively, short is probably not the long term position, but second or third could be, arm strength is average now, hands and exchange are fine. At the plate, hits from a taller open stance, simple stride on line, short load wraps a bit, short to ball with a classic launch angle swing that is set up to pull. He shows pull power and generates a lot of loft and carry, has some strength at contact. Would be curious to see how he adjusts to velo down and away or hard breaking stuff that way, but he definitely can show pull power and do damage with balls up over the plate or in. Had a home run and nearly a second in the game. Leftfield at Osbourn is pretty deep and plays deeper, so it wasn't a cheapy, its probably a 2-homer game at most high school fields. Intriguing player with positional versatility that shows some power.
