Tuesday evening, the Region 2B semifinals got underway as Page County played host to Madison County. Madison started junior lefty Trey Deane and Page went with sophomore righty Lance Williams (Virginia Tech)

Page got on the board quickly in the top of the first when Chase Parlett reached on an error and Williams singled to right to put runners on the corners with one out. A comebacker led to a rundown between third where Parlett was eventually cut down, but still left two on and two out for the Panthers. A pair of walks later and Page had an early 1-0 lead after the first.

Neither team had much offense going in the second and third as Williams dominated and Deane settled in and kept batters off balance. Through three innings, Williams had allowed a lone baserunner on an error and had 7 strikeouts. Deane had also still only allowed 1 hit in that time, and had found the strikezone after his brief bout of wildness in the first.

Williams again was perfect in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, the Panther offense came alive and put the game away. Caleb Knighton led off with a single and Caden Good followed with another. Hagan Bradley hit into a fielder's choice, but Madison wasn't able to record an out and the bases were loaded with the lineup turning over. Aidan Painter drove in two with a single to right, and then Parlett reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt that was perfect and went for a hit to load the bases again. A walk to Lance Williams pushed across another run and ended Deane's night with Page up 4-0 and the bases loaded with no outs. Koby Dobyns entered the game and did a good job of minimizing the damage. He allowed a deep sacrifice to TR Williams (Virginia Tech), and then with the help of a caught stealing by catcher Caleb Knighton, was able to induce a pop-up to end the fourth. At that point, Page led, 5-0.

After that, there wasn't much action left in the game. Lance Williams' no-hit bid was broken up in the sixth by a single off the batt of Kris Dobyns. Page would threaten a few more times, but ultimately would not score again, and the final score was 5-0. Page advances to the Region 2B Championship on Thursday, when the Panthers will travel to Buckingham.

Williams threw a 1-hit shutout, striking out 13 and walking none, he was also 1-1 with 3 BB at the plate. Painter was 2-4 with 2 RBI. Koby Dobyns went 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 K in relief for Madison.

Trey Deane LHP / 1B / Madison County, VA / 2022

Deane is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has strength present. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot from a longer free arm action with normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly closed with a bit of a fall off finish. Fastball was 77-81, touching 82, pitch had a bit of late armside run. Slider was 71-74 with good armspeed and late hard 1/7 break to it. Showed control of his pitches, was around the strike zone with them.

Lance Williams RHP / SS / Page County , VA / 2023

Williams is a Virginia Tech commit and is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and room to add more strength in the future. Throws from multiple slots, shows athleticism by changing rhythm in delivery and still being able to throw strikes from multiple timings and arm slots. Arm action is short, loose and quick with normal to some effort to it. Overall, fastball was 85-89, touching 90. From his high slot, a lot of 88-89 in the first three innings. From his low slot, was consistently 85 in the entire game. By the later innings, was more 85-87, touching 88-89 from the high slot. Curveball from high slot was 70-73 with good armspeed and sharp 11/5 break. Slider was 68-70 with good armspeed and sharp 10/4 break. Overall, showed control of all of his pitches and ability to throw all of them for strikes. Best command was with his normal slot curveball, which he seemed most comfortable with and flashed swing and miss. Still just scratching the surface of his athleticism.
