VA/DC Scout Blog: Grassfield at Cape Henry

Colin Lebel RHP / SS / Cape Henry Collegiate, VA / 2025

What a day for the sophomore. We have talked about it at length, but seventy pitches in seven innings with a seventy-seven percent strike ratio is crazy in today's game. It was mostly a fastball/slider combination on the day. The GW commit showed the ability to control both sides of the plate, as well as spin the slider for strike whenever he wanted. Hitters continued to try to pull and he continued to run that slider away from them causing frustration up and down the lineup. The only hits that the Grassfield lineup had that day were on two singles back through the middle. In the first four innings of the game Lebel managed thirty four total pitches, all while striking out five along the way. He was very efficient and very effective in his outing and it will be tough to imagine a more complete outing coming from a high school arm this year. 

Nathaniel Jensen 3B / OF / Cape Henry Collegiate, VA / 2024

Jensen has a strong 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with proportional strength throughout. Jensen led things off for #8 Cape Henry and jumpstarted the Dolphins offense in the first. Jensen's hands tend to stay tight on the turn and stays inside at contact. Hits behind a firm front side with a level path swing through the zone. In his first at bat he battled deep into a two strike count, fouling off multiple upper 80's fastballs before lining a single through the right side on a two strike slider.

Andrew Hart OF / LHP / Cape Henry Collegiate, VA / 2024

The junior outfielder had a RBI single on the day, but where he contributed most was in centerfield. Hart has a high end run tool that is easy to see out of the box, but where it shows up most often is in the outfield. Very quick first step, great angles, and can flat out track it down in the gaps. His ability to defend really shrinks the outfield for offenses and gives him a tool that has some value at the next level. Offensively it is a contact bat and can utilize his speed on the bases to where he can be a singles hitter with value because of his ability to steal a bag when he wants. 

Bradley Zayac RHP / 3B / Grassfield, VA / 2024

The East Carolina commit got the start for Grassfield. The fastball got up to 89-90 a few times in the first inning, but otherwise maintained 85-88 through his outing. Early on when he was a lot of 87-89, the fastball tended to flatten out and hitters were on it a little better. As he got into the outing and the velo sat in the 85-87 range he seemed to have a little more sink and run to it and was able to produce more soft contact and whiffs. The slider was mid 70's and got up as high as 78. In the second inning Zayac tended to lean on the 75-77 mph changeup a bit more. While he did struggle to finish counts early in the game, first inning especially, he did settle in fine and was more efficient on the back end of his start.
