Friday night saw round two of the 2021 edition of the Warrenton rivalry take place as Fauquier traveled across town to Kettle Run, the Cougars having won the first game early in the week in a game that was a scoreless tie until a late Kettle Run rally gave the a 4-0 win. On the mound to start the game for Fauquier was 2023 lefty Owen Winebarger and Kettle Run went with 2022 righthander Harrison Yergey.

Both pitchers worked perfect first innings and Yergey worked around a leadoff single in a scoreless second. Kettle Run got on the board first in the bottom of the second, when an error and an infield single put two on with one out. Peyton Mehaffey drove in the first run with a single to left. Winebarger ended the threat with a pair of strikeouts.

Fauquier answered in the top of the third as a two-out walk and a wild pitch put a runner in scoring position for Ethan Hall, who singled to right and drove in the tying run. The game did not stay tied for long as Kettle Run scored again in the bottom of the third, with Matt Twomey drawing a walk and stealing second before scoring on an error. After three innings, Kettle Run had a 2-1 lead.

Again the Cougar lead did not last long as Fauquier scored twice in the top of the fourth, with the big blow coming on a Blaine Smith RBI double to deep right. Smith scored the go-ahead run when the next batter reached on an error, giving the Falcons a 3-2 lead in the middle of the fourth.

That was all that Winebarger would need, as he shut down the Kettle Run offense the rest of the way, allowing 3 singles over the last four innings, with one runner wiped out on a double play and another on a caught stealing. Winebarger got a strikeout to end the game and Fauquier evened the rivalry this season with a 3-2 win.

Winebarger went 7 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 9 K, 1 BB and was also 2-3 at the plate in the winning effort. Hall was 2-4 with an RBI and Smith was 1-2 with a 2B, RBI, and HBP. For Kettle Run, Yergey went 6 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 7 K, 1 BB. Zack Gimon threw 1 scoreless inning with 3 Ks. Mehaffey went 2-3 with an RBI and Twomey was 1-2 with a BB and a SB.
