Virginia Spotlight: 2020 IF Carter Trice
Trice is an interesting 2020 infield prospect coming out of Lee Davis HS in the Richmond area. His current 6-foot frame projects as a middle infielder who could hit for average. He takes excellent routes from the middle with a quick and confident first step. He could work on finishing the play more after fielding which he could probably get more on his already above average arm (82 mph). At the plate it's a shorter swing path with free hands and some rhythm at the plate. His balance should get more consistent as he develops and given his frame, he could potentially mature into a potential corner prospect with more juice at the plate.
Scouting Report
6.27.17: Trice is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back with a slight wrap, good rhythm to swing. Explosive lower half and good balance to swing. Short swing, works slightly uphill, line drive swing with extension through the ball, gap to gap approach with power potential, exit velocity was 85. At short, clean feet, plays around ball well, fields with a good base and above average hands. Plays through the ball, clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action, infield velocity was 78.
