On Wednesday, June 24, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted the Top Prospect Showcase-South at Nansemond River HS in Suffolk, VA.  Uncommitted 2016 graduates showcased their skills for various colleges and the PBR staff. Here is the analysis of the pitchers that attended the event...

TOp Prospect Showcase-south: Pitcher analysis

Cody Brown, OF/RHP, Gloucester, 2016
Brown has an athletic frame with a strong lower half. He has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He has a long arm action and generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are uphill and slightly closed as he strides out to a closed landing before coming an athletic finish. Brown’s fastball topped out at 80 and he worked at 75-77. He threw strikes with the pitch and it had slight run to it. He threw a sharp 11/5 slider with decent armspeed that ran 64-66. Brown also threw a sinking changeup with good armspeed that ran 72-73.

Corey Fago, LHP, Nansemond River, 2016
Fago has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action and a quick armstroke which generates easy velocity. His shoulders are downhill and closed as he strides out to a square landing before coming to an athletic finish. Fago’s fastball sat 79-81 and touched 82, it had slight cut and some plane to it and he pounded the strike zone. He threw a late-breaking 1/7 slider that ran 70-74. He threw his changeup for strikes and it was thrown with decent armspeed and had armside run to it, sitting 73-75.

Andrew Halmrast, RHP, Nansemond River, 2016
Halmrast has a strong lower half and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a rushed drop and drive delivery. He has a long arm action that is a bit stiff and generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed and he lands closed before coming to an athletic finish. Halmrast’s fastball touched 77 and sat 74-76 with slight sink and good downhill plane. He threw a late-breaking 11/5 curveball with decent armspeed that ran 64-66. His changeup was also thrown with decent armspeed and sinking action, running 68-71. He commanded his fastball and changeup very well and did a good job keeping his breaking ball down.

Matthew Holt, RHP/1B, Nansemond River, 2016
Holt has a big frame with a strong lower half. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot and has a drop and drive delivery. His arm action has a bit of a wrap to it and he has a quick arm stroke that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill and on line as he strides out to a slightly closed landing before coming to an athletic finish. Holt’s fastball ran 82-84 with late run and good downhill plane. His curveball was thrown with full armspeed and had late 10/4 break, running 67-72. His changeup was also thrown with full armspeed and had armside run to it and sat 73-76. Holt had good command of all three of his pitches. 

Jacob Kisner, RHP/MIF, West Springfield, 2016
Kisner has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with an explosive drop and drive delivery. He has a long arm action and a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and on line and he lands square before coming to an athletic finish. Kisner’s fastball sat 80, touching 82, and had slight run to it and very good plane. He threw a late, sharp 12/6 curveball with good armspeed that ran 66-69. His changeup was thrown with full armspeed and had armside run, sitting 73-75. Kisner also threw a splitter with late 12/6 dive to it and good armspeed that ran 69-70. He showed good command of all of his pitches at the bottom of the strike zone.

Matthew Meyers, 3B/RHP, Portsmouth Christian, 2017
Meyers has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a choppy tall and fall delivery. His arm action is long and he generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are on line and slightly uphill as he strides out to a slightly closed landing before falling off a bit as he finishes. Meyers’ fastball has slight sinking action to it and ran 69-71. He threw a 12/6 curveball with decent armspeed that ran 58-62. He slowed his arm a bit on his changeup, and it ran 65-66 with sink and a bit of cut to it. 

Palmer Taylor, RHP/MIF, Patrick Henry, 2016
Taylor has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a late hand break and a long, fluid arm action that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill and on line and he swings his front foot to a slightly open landing before coming to an athletic finish. Taylor’s fastball sat 74-77, touching 78, and had late sinking action to it. He threw a sharp 10/4 slider with good armspeed that ran 66-67. His changeup was thrown with decent armspeed and had fading action to it, sitting 68-69.
