TOp Prospect Showcase-south: outfielder analysis

Cody Brown, OF, Gloucester, 2016
Hits from a tall, balanced stance that is slightly open.  Does not load back and arm bars during separation.  Rhythm is stiff throughout swing.  Stride does not get back on line.  Lower half does not engage with hands.  Strong frame and power potential if lower half was utilized.  Maintains his balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 78 mph.  Swing path works around ball thus making him a pull hitter.  Line drive hitter with pull power potential.  In the outfield, threw from a high ¾ arm slot.  Long arm action that gets stiff at times.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 78 mph.  Average hands.  Footwork was slow, but got in sync at times.

Wil Davis, OF, Nansemond River, 2016
Hit from a balanced and athletic stance that was slightly crouched.  Fluid rhythm to swing with smooth load back.  Stride stays on line.  Average balance.  Lower half exploded to the baseball.  Fast hands.  Bat exit velocity of 83 mph.  Short, level swing with good extension.  Should be a consistent line drive hitter than can find the gaps.  In the outfield, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was long and loose.  Throws were accurate.  Positional velocity of 81 mph.  Throws had some carry.  Average hands with fluid footwork that played through the ball.  Quick, clean exchanges.

Dylan Hudson, OF, Hickory, 2016
Hits from a tall, narrow stance that is balanced.  Hands are preset back.  No load back with an arm bar.  Long stride that stays on line.  Average lower drive to the baseball when he stays in his legs.  Maintains balance throughout swing.  Bat exit velocity of 82 mph.  Good approach to the round.  Swing path was long, but level.  Line drive swing with gap-to-gap power potential.  Rhythm is methodical at times.  In the outfield, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was long and stiff.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 72 mph.  Hands were average.

Rodney Pierce, OF, Surry, 2017
Hit from an athletic, balanced stance.  No load back with a slight leg kick stride that dives forward.  Stride stays on line.  Slight arm bar.  Maintains balance throughout swing.  Swing path stays level and tends to pull off ball at times.  Bat exit velocity of 78 mph.  Line drive hitter.  In the outfield, throws from a high ¾ arm slot that is short.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 77 mph.  Showed signs of some athleticism.  Adding fluidity to his footwork with his athleticism should increase his outfield skills.
