On Wednesday, June 24, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted the Top Prospect Showcase-South at Nansemond River HS in Suffolk, VA.  Uncommitted 2016 graduates showcased their skills for various colleges and the PBR staff. Here is the analysis of the middle infielders that attended the event...

Andrew Crandall, 2B/SS, Salem, 2016
Hit from a balanced, athletic stance that was slightly open.  Loaded back with a slight arm bar.  Stride was short and under control.  Average lower half turn to the ball.  Maintained balance throughout the swing.  Showed fast bat speed with an exit velocity of 83 mph.  Had a good approach to the round with a swing path that was level and extended through the ball.  Should be a consistent line drive hitter.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot with a long, loose arm action with accuracy.  Played through the baseball with soft hands, fluid footwork, and quick exchanges.  Footwork was methodical at times.  Showed average arm strength with a positional velocity of 74 mph.

Michael Diodato, SS, Gloucester, 2016
Hit from a balanced stance that was open and tall.  Had a smooth load back with fluid rhythm.  Leg kick stride that was long but stayed on line.  Lower half exploded to the ball.  Balance was maintained throughout swing.  Showed average bat speed with an exit velocity of 81 mph.  Took a good approach during the round with a swing path that was short and level through the zone.  Should be a consistent line drive hitter with gap-to-gap power.  In the field, threw from a ¾ arm slot that was short and accurate.  Arm strength was average with a positional velocity of 79 mph.  Played through the ball with some athleticism. Footwork was quick and went around the ball.  Exchanges were quick and clean.

Jacob Kisner, RHP/SS, West Springfield, 2016
Hit from a balanced and athletic stance.  Loaded back with a slight arm bar.  Rhythm was stiff at times.  Short stride with an inward turn with knee.  Average lower half turn to the baseball.  Maintained good balance throughout his swing.  Showed average bat speed with an exit velocity of 78 mph.  Had a good approach to the round with a short and level swing path that should result in consistent line drives.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was short and loose.  Throws showed some accuracy and carry.  Had a positional velocity of 81 mph.  Showed athleticism that played through the ball with soft hands. Natural infielder with footwork was quick and fluid.  Had good feet with good actions that should result in a good defensive player.  Exchanges were clean.

Nicholas Lees, SS/2B, Nansemond River, 2016
Hit from an open stance that was balanced and athletic.  Smooth load back with good rhythm in hands. Lower half rhythm got a little stiff at times.  Short stride that got on line and stayed balanced.  Lower half had an average turn to the ball that pushed forward.  Average bat speed with an exit velocity of 73 mph. Took a good approach to the round with a swing path that was short and level.  Should be a consistent line drive hitter.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was long and loose.  Had average arm strength with a positional velocity of 75 mph.  Throws were accurate.  Sat back on his heels at times.  Exchanges were quick and clean.

Garrett Lyons, 2B/OF, Frank W. Cox, 2016
Hit from an open stance that was tall and balanced.  Smooth load back with a slight arm bar.  Good rhythm in his hands.  Exploded to the ball with lower half and maintained his balance throughout swing. Showed average bat speed with an exit velocity of 83 mph.  Good approach to the round.  Swing path was short and level through the zone.  Cut off his extension at times.  Swing should produce consistent line drive with gap-to-gap power.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was long and loose. Throws showed some accuracy with carry.  Had a positional velocity of 81 mph.  Fielded with soft hands that were quick and clean.  Played through the ball, but footwork was methodical at times.

Johnny Mayer, 2B/SS, Nansemond River, 2016
Hit from a balanced, athletic stance that was on line.  Smooth load back with a short stride that maintained line and balance.  Rhythm became stiff at times.  Had decent lower half drive to the baseball. Maintained his balance throughout swing.  Bat speed was average with an exit velocity of 76 mph.  Swing path was short and level with extension through the ball.  Line drive hitter.  In the field, threw from a short ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some accuracy and had a positional velocity of 71 mph.  Showed athleticism with footwork that was quick and played through the ball.  Soft hands that allowed for quick and clean exchanges.

Jared Share, SS/2B, Granby, 2016
Hit from a slightly open stance that was athletic and balanced.  Smooth load back that does not get back to center.  Long stride that got on line and stayed balanced.  Lower half collapsed on turn to the baseball. Maintained average balance throughout swing.  Showed fast hands with a bat exit velocity of 88 mph. Swing path worked uphill at times.  Gap-to-gap power with pull power.  Rhythm was maintained throughout swing.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot with long and loose arm action.  Throws had some accuracy and carry.  Positional velocity of 81 mph.  Showed soft hands with quick and clean exchanges.  Footwork was slow and on heels at times.

Palmer Taylor, RHP/SS, Patrick Henry, 2016
Hit from a balanced stance that is slightly crouched.  No load back with a short stride that stays on line.  Rhythm was stiff.  Comes up out of legs during stride and never gets back into legs.  Maintained his balance throughout the swing.  Bat exit velocity of 74 mph.  Swing path was level and had extension through ball.  Line drive swing.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was short and loose.  Positional velocity of 69 mph that showed accuracy.  Hands were soft with clean exchanges.  Good glove presentation.  Footwork was slow and on heels.

Robby Tew, C/SS, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, 2018
Lefty who hits from an athletic stance that is stacked on backside.  Slight load back with an arm bar that causes his bat to drag.  Modified leg kick stride that stays on line.  Maintains his balance throughout swing.  Rhythm gets stiff and choppy.  Bat exit velocity of 74 mph.  Swing path works uphill at times.  When he stays level through the zone he produces consistent line drives.  Pull hitter with potential for pull power.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was short.  Throws had some accuracy and had a positional velocity of 72 mph.  Showed average hands that had clean exchanges.  Footwork was methodical and waited on balls.
