In June, PBR VA/DC hosted the Top Prospect North Showcase at Patriot High School, featuring over players primarily from Northern Virginia. Over the next week, we will post the scouting reports on that event as we add them to each player's profile. Here are the pitchers, in alphabetical order:
Jake DeLisi, SS/RHP, Brentsville, 2019
DeLisi has a lanky 5-7 frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. Short arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are level and stride is on line to a square landing with a fall off finish. Fastball had slight run, sitting 71-72 and touching 73. 10/4 slider that was 60-62. Fading change-up with decent armspeed was 60-64.
Derek Domecq, LHP/OF, Western Albemarle, 2018
Domecq has a strong 6-0 frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose arm action with easy effort. His shoulders are closed and he lands closed with and athletic finish. His fastball sat 77-79, touching 80 with some run. Late-breaking 2/8 slider with good armspeed that ran 70-72. Sinking change-up with good armspeed was 70-73. Good command of all pitches.
Noah Goins, 1B/RHP, Kettle Run, 2017
Goins has an athletic 6-6 frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Loose, quick arm action with easy effort. Shoulders are closed and stride is on line to a square landing and fall off finish. Fastball had hard run, sat 83-85, touched 87. Change-up had sink and decent armspeed, running 70-72. Knuckleball had sink, almost forkball action, ran 63-65.
Thomas Russell, RHP/SS, Paul VI Catholic, 2018
Russell is 6-2 and has a lanky frame. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth tall and fall delivery. Short, loose, quick arm action with normal effort. Shoulders are closed and down as he strides to a square landing with a slight fall off finish. Fastball sat 80-81, touched 82. Sharp 11/5 curveball with good armspeed, 61-64. Fading change-up with good armspeed was 71-73.
Braden Seay, RHP, Patriot, 2017
Seay is 5-11 and has an athletic frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Long, quick arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are closed and level as he strides to a closed landing. Fastball had plane and slight run, sat 79-80. Sharp 11/5 curveball with good armspeed was 68-70. Sinking change-up with decent armspeed was 73-78. Showed good command of all three pitches.
Jonathan Sedmak, SS/RHP, Loudoun Valley, 2019
Sedmak has an athletic 5-11 frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long, quick arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are level and stride is on line to a square landing with a fall off finish. Fastball had slight run, sat 71-73 and touched 74. 10/4 curveball with late break and good armspeed, 59-62. Change-up had good armspeed and arm side run at 65-68.
Jack Slade, RHP, McLean, 2017
Slade is 6-2 with a lanky frame. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Quick arm action with some effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides on line to a square landing with a fall off finish. Fastball sat 81-84, touched 86 with heavy run. Sharp sweeping slider with good armspeed was 69-72. Change-up had good armspeed and arm side run, sitting 72-77.
Ben Wolk, LHP, Robinson, 2018
Wolk has a lanky 5-11 frame. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long, loose arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are closed and uphill as strides on line to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball had slight run, sat 70-74. Curveball had 1/7 action with decent armspeed, running 59-62. Change-up had decent armspeed and arm side run, sitting 64-67. Good command of all three pitches.
