Top Prospect Games Statistical Recap

Last weekend Prep Baseball Report hosted the 2014 Top Prospect Games at Davenport Field on the campus of the University of Virginia for members of the 2016 and 2017 classes. Over 65 players participated, with some of the best talent from all corners of the Commonwealth showing off their ability on the field over the weekend.

In the coming weeks, we will break down what we saw at the event and chronicle the impact that the 2014 Top Prospect Games have on the recruiting process for its participants. Below we will highlight the top measurables that we recorded over the weekend.

Hylton’s Fox Semones had the highest velocity off the mound over the weekend, sitting 86-88 and touching 89 once in his first inning of work. Fox also impressed as an athletic defender in the middle infield where his arm strength is a bonus.

Kyle Battle of Glen Allen High School had the fastest home to first time, getting up the line in 4.37 seconds. Battle paired his speed with a strong arm and one of the top exit velocities to make him one of the toolsiest outfielders on display over the weekend.

Nansemond River’s Matthew Holt had the top exit velocity of the weekend, with the ball jumping off of his bat at 95 mph. Holt also had a strong showing on the mound, sitting 82-86 with his fastball.

Potomac’s Alex Burke and Kettle Run’s Brenton Doyle tied for the top outfield velocity, hitting 87. Burke also impressed on the mound, sitting 81-84 and showing good feel of both of his offspeed pitches.

John Callahan from Stone Bridge and Robert Riddick of Paul VI tied for the highest infield velocity. Riddick was up to 88 on the mound and Callahan also displayed plus power potential at the plate, crushing a home run to left on Saturday.

Stone Bridge’s Elijah Quiceno had the highest velocity for a catcher. Quinceno has had experience catching elite pitching as he caught top prospect and current North Carolina Tar Heel J.B. Bukauskas last year as a sophomore.

Devon Adams of Paul VI registered the best pop time of the weekend, firing out a 1.93. Adams also had the one of the strongest arms from behind the plate, hitting 77 mph.
