Day 4 of the 2018 Prep Baseball Report Future Games saw Team Mid-Atlantic square off against Team Carolinas in their final matchup of the event. Team Mid-Atlantic got quality pitching early and consistent offense throughout they day as they prevailed by a final score of 8-7.
Jon Compton C/OF Gate City (VA) 2020
Compton continued his strong Future Games performance with another good day at the plate. He went 1-3 with a triple to right center in his first at bat and put a good swing on the ball in his third at-bat as well.
Thomas Trinca OF Centreville (VA) 2020
Trinca put the cap on his outstanding Future Games performance with a triple to right-center and a single to left. He ended the day 2-3, making his first out of the week with a line out to center. Trinca continued to show a quick line drive swing that works well gap to gap with the ability to drive the ball to all fields for extra bases. Trinca's hand-eye coordination is outstanding, and while he has shown that with his five hits, it was more evident in the at-bat that he made an out in. He quickly fell behind 0-2 in that at-bat and proceeded to foul off about 10 pitches in a row before finally lining out to center, with him actually being able to get the bat on a curveball after it had bounced in front of the plate for one of those foul balls.
Charles Hafer III OF John Carroll (MD) 2020
Hafer was 1-2 with a walk and an RBI in today's game. The base hit was a double the he pulled down the leftfield line past third base during the team's comeback. His best swing of the Future Games was his last, when he lined out right to the second baseman, but he showed his batspeed and strength at contact on that swing.
Lew Rice C Collegiate (VA) 2020
Rice had himself a nice getaway day at the plate as well, going 1-3 with a base hit to left-center and a lineout to short. The lefty swinger is athletic and has a good gap to gap swing. He also had a good pre-game batting practice, spraying well-struck line drives all over the field and showing his power by putting a ball out.
Ethan McCormick SS/RHP Archbishop Spalding (MD) 2020
McCormick has been good defensively all week and he showed his versatility by getting on the mound today and throwing two competitive innings while sitting 81-84. He had a good day offensively as well, going 1-2 at the plate. He has good actions at short and a short swing with batspeed and a frame that has a lot of projection left to it.
Austin Younce C Greenbrier Christian (VA) 2021
Younce was 1-3 with an RBI on the final day of the Future Games, with the one being a triple that was mashed over the centerfielder's head. His batspeed and power were on display on that swing and his speed and athleticism also showed as well as he turned it into an easy triple.
Garrett Newsome OF/RHP Gonzaga College (DC) 2020
Newsome was 1-2 with a HBP at the plate and showed the ability to adjust mid-swing with his base hit. He was geared up for a fastball and was a bit off balance but did a good job of keeping his hands back and getting the barrel to the ball with strength to line a base hit.
JT Carter C Bishop O'Connell (VA) 2020
Carter wrapped up a strong Future Games with a good day at the plate, going 2-2 with an RBI. Carter is strong at contact and showed that he is a very good receiver and blocker behind the plate all weekend.
Eddie Eisert SS/RHP Bishop O'Connell (VA) 2020
Eisert got the start on the mound and fired a scoreless inning to open the game. He struck out Team Carolina's big hitter, Nick Neal, to open the game, getting swing and misses on back to back sliders for the punch out. His fastball was 81-84 and he showed a quick arm and he has potential to add velocity as he continues to develop.
Josh Moylan 1B Archbishop Spalding (MD) 2020
Moylan wrapped his strong weekend up with a single to left center in his final at-bat. His short swing and bat speed were evident as it was all weekend. He has power potential but does a great job using the whole field well and is a true hitter, not a three outcome pull guy.
Trey Carter RHP/OF Carlisle (VA) 2020
Carter had an RBI single in his first at-bat, ripping a two-strike pitch to left. He also put on a bit of a show during his first BP round during pregame, putting 3 balls out of the park in six swings during his second round.
