Summer Notebook: Commonwealth Games

This weekend Liberty University hosted the Commonwealth Games All-Star event, which featured four teams of 15-17 year-olds from around Virginia squaring off in a tournament to try and win a team Gold Medal. The North team rallied after losing its first game Friday with a Saturday sweep to reach the Gold Medal game, which they won 10-0 in a rain shortened game against the West team on Sunday. We were on site Friday and Saturday, here are our early thoughts from the weekend.
North Team
-Sherando 2019 RHP Hunter Entsminger (James Madison) was 85-87, touch 88. Slider 76-77, curveball 71-72, change-up 71-72.
-Potomac Falls 2020 LHP Nate Savino (Virginia) was 91-92 in a short relief appearance Friday. Slider 77.
-Dominion 2019 LHP Dylan Weber was 81-82, touched 83. Change-up 72-74, curveball 66-67.
-Colgan 2020 OF Ryley Johnson's (East Carolina) speed and athleticism was on display all weekend.
-Riverside 2019 SS Carson Swank (Yale) barreled the ball consistently and showed batspeed
-Bishop O'Connell 2020 SS Eddie Eisert showed his offensive ability from both sides of the plate.
-Briar Woods 2020 C Nathan Cmeyla showed his batspeed and was good behind the dish.
-Colonial Forge 2019 C/1B Jake Wortman had a good weekend at the plate, hitting well from both sides.
-Page County 2021 TR Williams (Virginia Tech) was 80-84. Curveball 70-73, knows how to pitch.
-Riverside 2019 David Setien was 84-86, touched 87. Curveball was 72-74.
Central Team
-Hanover 2019 LHP Jack Golkeski was 79-83, touch 84. Curveball was 62-67.
-Patrick Henry (Ashland) 2019 RHP Gabe Lassiter was 80-82, touch 84. Curveball 69-71.
-Powhatan 2020 RHP/SS Brandon Eike (Virginia Tech) impressed with his batspeed.
-Thomas Dale 2019 RHP Karson Jennings was 74-78, touched 79.
-Atlee 2019 1B Zachary Beach (Coastal Carolina) showed his power and strength at the plate.
-Cosby 2019 OF Ethan Iannuzzi impressed at the plate and in the field.
East Team
-Salem (VA Beach) 2020 LHP Colton Robinson was 79-81. Curveball 70-73.
-Greenbrier Christian 2019 RHP Anthony Morton was 82-85, top 86. Slider 74-77.
-Kellam SS/RHP Corey Leadenham was 82-83, curveball 64-65. Showed some bat speed as well.
-Nansemond River 2020 OF Bryson Dansberry showed athleticism and speed that make him very intriguing.
-Nansemond-Suffolk 2019 SS Zach Morris (VMI) made some athletic plays at short and third and showed off his batspeed and power potential.
-Ocean Lakes 2019 RHP Micah Singer was 72-75. Curveball was 65-67.
-Lafayette 2019 SS Osvaldo Torres showed athleticism in the field.
--Norfolk Christian 2020 LHP/1B Ty Johnson was 75-78, touch 79. Curveball was 59-61 and change-up was 70-71. Showed some batspeed at the plate, potential two-way player.
West Team
-Halifax County 2019 RHP Alex Lowery was 81-83, touch 84. Slider was 66-70, change-up was 73-76.
-Cave Spring 2019 RHP Connor Lewis was 77-81, touch 82. Curveball was 64-70.
-Turner Ashby 2020 RHP Nick Griffin was 82-84, touch 85. Curveball was 65-70.
-Gretna 2019 C Cole Rigney was 76 on his throws, pops 2.09-2.19, including 2.10 in game. Showed batspeed.
-Jefferson Forest 2020 OF Jackson Cherry showed athleticism, speed, and a quick bat.
-Riverheads 2020 SS Grant Painter showed batspeed and athleticism.
-Riverheads 2020 C/IF Braeson Fulton showed batspeed and power potential.
-Brookville 2020 C/OF Jared Glinski showed batspeed and power potential. Had a 2.15 in-game pop.
-Franklin County 2020 CIF Colton Kent hit two home runs on the weekend
-Chatham 2019 RHP AJ Potojecki (Longwood) was 84-86, touch 87. Curveball 70-73 and change-up 79.
-Virginia 2019 RHP Jordan Dixon was 83-85. Curveball was 72-74.
