South Atlantic Border Battle Highlights

Last weekend, North Carolina State hosted the South Atlantic Border Battle. The event has eight teams divided up by class and area. Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina each had their own teams for the 2015 and 2016-2017 classes. There were two Mid-Atlantic teams that had players representing Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Overall, it was obvious it was November as play was generally sloppy and velocities were down for pitchers. The players are tired and look ready for the offseason. But there were still some highlights worth noting from the event…
+ RHP Nic Enright (Steward School, VA) struck out 14 in seven innings in his start at the World Wood Bat Championship in Jupiter. With a strong outing in front of dozens of scouts under his belt, it would have been understandable if he closed his year on a high note and didn’t pitch last weekend. But he toed the rubber on Sunday and didn’t disappoint. He struck out two in two innings and the only baserunner he allowed was on an error. Enright worked with a simple delivery, sitting in the high 80s, but touched 90 several times. He threw three straight 90-mph fastballs to get a strikeout looking against one batter. The Virginia Tech recruit is athletic on the mound, showing quick feet and the ability to field his position well. Enright’s curveball sat 73-75 with nasty 11/5 shape. He also mixed in a sharp slider with short, lateral break.
