Dwight Riddick, Jr. (Grassfield, 2016) has committed to attend Norfolk State University to play baseball in the fall of 2016. He is one of the many players that attended the Preseason All-State to commit. Riddick, Jr. is part of a pitching dominant Grassfield team that will be led by Tennessee commit, Garrett Stallings (Ranked #1 in the 2016 Player Rankings) and Hunter Perdue (Ranked #1 in the 2017 Player Rankings).
At the Preseason All-State, Riddick, Jr. hit from an open stance that was balanced and athletic. Had a smooth load back with a slight arm bar. Had a leg kick stride that stayed balanced a majority of the time. Utilized his lower half throughout swing. Showed good bat speed with a short and level swing path. Exit Velocity was 84 mph. Should be a line drive hitter with the ability to easily hit to the opposite field. In the field, he threw from a high ¾ arm slot with accuracy. His Positional Velocity was 73 mph. He displayed soft hands that allowed for clean exchanges. Moved well.
At the next level, Riddick, Jr. will be an above average defender that will compete for a starting spot as a freshman. His smooth action and awareness will allow him to be a very good college second baseman. His bat will continue to get better and should produce some doubles and the occasional home run.
Congrats Dwight!
