On Wednesday, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its Class of 2017 Unsigned Senior Games at Randolph Macon College in Virginia. 54 players participated in the event which was held on hot August day to showcase their talents for the PBR staff and colleges that will be on hand. Over the coming weeks, we will break down the players in more detail, but here are some quick thoughts on players who stood out at the event:

South County outfielder Jack Basse had the second best exit velocity of the day, showing explosive power to his pull side during his showcase BP. He was able to tap into that in the game when he launched a home run to left. Showed a decent arm and solid actions in the outfield as well.

Lake Braddock first baseman Anthony Burke showed good extension through the baseball during his showcase BP and used the whole field during the game with a pair of singles to right.

E.C. Glass third baseman and catcher Avery Combs had a triple to deep right center in the game and showed a short line-drive swing with a gap-to-gap approach and doubles power. Can definitely go behind the plate with a 2.09 pop time.

North Stafford two-player Justin Cherry had a big day as a pitcher and as a position player. On the mound, he was 83-85 with a good breaking ball and change-up to go with his fastball. In the field, he had good actions and showed a strong arm across the infield. At the plate, he had three hits during the game and showed a compact, line drive swing from both sides.

Righty Brian Diehr from Lee-Davis showed the most complete repertoire of pitches on the day, sitting 81-83 with his fastball but also showing very good feel for a good change-up, true slider, and sharp curveball.

Randolph-Henry righthander Raleigh Duffer sat at 83 and touched 84 with his fastball and showed a sharp breaking ball during his inning of work.

Stafford righthander Braydon Floyd had the top velocity of the day, touching 87, while sitting 84-85. He also showed feel for a sharp breaking ball that was 71-73.

G.C. Marshall infielder Robert Guenther showed well in the middle infield, with soft hands, good actions, and an above average arm that was accurate, but he also showed that he can easily handle playing the outfield if necessary. At the plate, showed a fast bat with gap power and had a pair of hits in the games.

Cosby catcher Michael Johnson again showed his good catch and throw abilities, with all of his pop times being between 2.02 and 2.09 and showing a good arm behind the plate.

Highland outfielder Noah Lerman showed a decent arm and good actions in the outfield as well as a short swing with power potential. Made a diving play in the game after getting a good break on a flare.

Righthander Ryan Miles from Woodgrove had the best breaking ball that was thrown all day, with a sharp 12/6 curveball that he threw at 72. His fastball also sat 84-85, touching 86.

William Monroe’s RJ Payne showcased his ability as a two-way talent. He showed a faster bat with good extension through the baseball and power. On the mound, the lefty was 77-78, touching 80, with a very good breaking ball.

Patriot righthander James Price sat 84-85 in his outing, showing an improved breaking ball with sharp break and his usual outstanding change-up. Showed command of all three pitches and attacked the zone.

Highland School righty Josh Pittman was 84-85, touching 86 with a loose arm and a sharp breaking ball that was 70-71.

United Christian Academy righthander Michael Spence sat 82-84 with a lanky 6-2 frame and a long arm action that is intriguing. Curveball flashed late, hard bite.

Righthander Timmy Stephan from Highland School had a good day on the mound and in the field. On the mound, he sat 82-84 and touched 86 with a good breaking ball and feel for a change-up. He also had a short swing with some power potential and the ability to be fluid in the infield with an above average arm.

Tallwood catcher Miles Watson had one of the best days of any player at the event. He showed an above average arm behind the plate and was aggressive attempting to back pick runners. His arm was accurate and his best pop time was 2.03. At the plate he hits from the left side and showed a ton of batspeed with a short swing and good extension and power potential.
