George Mason righthander Logan Nesson has committed to attend Brandeis University in the fall of 2016. Nesson is the first member of the Mustangs 2016 class to commit to play baseball in college. The Mustangs are coming off of an outstanding 2015 season that saw them finish 20-6 overall and just miss the 2A State Tournament, falling to Maggie Walker in the Regional Semifinals. George Mason lost six seniors to graduation and will be particularly hurt by the departures of Evan Davis (OF, Eastern Mennonite) and All-State honoree Chris Meador (MIF, Virginia Tech). Despite those losses, George Mason should again compete with Strasburg to be the top team in Conference 35 in 2016.

Nesson stands 5-foot-11 and has an athletic frame. He has a drop and drive delivery and throws from an over the top slot. He has a short, loose arm action and pitches with easy effort. His shoulders are level and he strides on line to his target, landing square and coming to an athletic finish. At the Pre-Season All-State Showcase in February, Nesson’s fastball had slight run to it and sat 76-77. He threw a tight 11/5 slider with good armspeed that ran 69-72. His change-up was thrown with full armspeed and had sinking action to it and ran 74-76. Nesson had good command of all of his pitches and worked down in the zone with his fastball and change-up.

When Nesson arrives at Brandeis, he will have a chance to compete for innings immediately. His three pitch mix and ability to throw strikes make him a candidate to be a starter at the next level, and he could turn into a weekend guy as he adds strength and velocity over the course of his career.
