Millbrook High School pitcher Trey Braithwaite has committed to attend the United States Naval Academy in the fall of 2016. Braithwaite is the fifth current Pioneer and to commit to attend a Division I school, joining Alex Amos (MIF, 2016, Pittsburgh), Conor Hartigan (OF, 2017, Coastal Carolina) Ryan Kennedy (LHP, 2017, Kennesaw State), and Anthony Simonelli (RHP, 2017, Coastal Carolina). Braithwaite will again be part of one the deepest and most talented rotations in 4A as Millbrook looks to return to the State Tournament in 2016.
Braithwaite stands 6-foot-3 and has an athletic frame. He has a tall and fall delivery and throws from an over the top slot. He has a late hand break and a short, stiff arm action before a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and he strides out closed before sweeping to a square landing and falling off as he finishes. At the Pre-Season All-State Showcase in February, Braithwaite’s fastball was commanded well and had slight cutting action to it and ran 76-78, touching 81. His curveball had early, big break to it and 12/6 action that he commanded well, running 57-63. His change-up had cutting action, sitting 68-73.
When he arrives at the Naval Academy, Braithwaite should be able to contribute to Midshipman in a variety of roles immediately as a strike-thrower with feel for three pitches. As his career progresses, Braithwaite has the potential to develop into a weekend starter as he adds strength and velocity.
Congrats Trey!
