As we approach the spring season, we would like to highlight some uncommitted players from across the state that you should get out and see this spring.
As always, the beach offers plenty of talent, committed and uncommitted. This year is no different. Now we take a look at four uncommitted 2023's from two high school programs in the 757.
Peter Philips jumped out in front of our staff back in the spring of 2021. Since then the Ocean Lakes right-hander has maintained his velo and built on some of the secondary. Bigger, durable 6-foot-5 frame with a shorter arm circle on the backside. He works from a whippy three-quarter slot and has shown the ability to spin a slurvy, 11/5 breaking ball strikes. I would imagine, with the departure of Max Kuhle (JMU), that Philips will slide into the #2 starter role behind the staff ace, Blake Dickerson (Virginia Tech).
Carson Goad is a physical right-handed bat from Maury High School. The Commodore first baseman has a simple approach at the plate and has shown some power potential to all fields. Goad first showed us that power as a sophomore in the PBR Spring Training League in Hampton. He has continued to show his offfense first profile, as he had some strong games at the plate this past summer in front of our tournament staff.
Another Ocean Lakes uncommitted senior is Tavon Williams. Williams is a wiry, long limbed, 6-foot right-hander that has some nice upside on the mound. While he has shown some two-way potential, we feel like Williams is a solid fit on the mound at the next level. Long loose arm swing from a three-quarter slot. It is a slower paced delivery and the mid 80's fastball tends to play up just a tick. He is an arm that still has room to add polish and with some of the things that he does, could make him an interesting watch this spring and beyond.
We head back to Maury High School for another Commodores power bat. Brian Jones is a physical left handed bat with in game power, but even more so than the power he has the ability to get the barrel on the ball at a consistent rate. Mostly first base defensive profile, but is a capable defender in the corner outfield spots at the high school level.
