Nathan Volz commits to Brevard College
December 17, 2014
Northern Virginia Prospect I.D. participant and Potomac HS left-handed pitcher Nathan Volz has committed to Brevard College. Volz is 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, with an athletic frame. He throws from a low three-quarters slot and is max effort with a choppy rhythm. Volz throws a heavy fastball that sits 77-81 mph and has been as high as 83 mph. His arm slot helps him generate heavy run on his fastball. Volz also threw a cutter that ran 69-72 mph that he could turn into a plus slider. He slowed his arm a bit on his change-up, but it was 68-69 mph with a lot of late fade to it. Volz commanded all of his pitches very well.
When he gets to Brevard, Volz will have competitive velocity from a low arm slot that pounds the strike zone. His projection makes him even more attractive as a prospect. As he smooths out his rhythm and adds strength, his velocity should increase without sacrificing movement or command. When Volz begins to turn over his cutter a bit more and turns it into a slider it will give him two outstanding offerings to go with a change that has a lot of potential because of its late fading action. He should develop into at least a high leverage reliever and could develop into a dominant college starter for the Tornados.
Congratulations Nathan!
