Mid-Atlantic State Games: Upperclass Quick Hits Part I

Last weekend, well over 150 players from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC descended on War Memorial Stadium in Hampton Roads, Virginia for the 2022 Mid-Atlantic State Games. Players took part in a showcase workout on Saturday and a game throughout the day Saturday and Sunday. Some of the Region's top committed prospects were also on the field on Saturday night for the 2022 Committed Game.
Now we take a look back at some standout moments from uncommitted upperclass players that were in attendance.
Upperclass Quick Hits: Part I

Jaydden Espiritusanto C / 3B / Dundalk, MD / 2024Strong, broad shouldered frame. Solid defender behind the plate, with average arm strength, and a quick exchange to release. Physical bat with feel for the barrel and the ability to produce runs in the middle of an order.

Brian Jones 1B / LHP / Maury, VA / 2023One of the best remaining uncommitted bats in VA/DC 2023 class. Jones has physicality in the offensive profile, as well as the bat to ball skills to hit for average as well. Strong frame, left handed stick, and middle of the order profile.

Jamie Laskofski SS / RHP / Lake Braddock, VA / 2024Plays with a maturity to his game. Left handed hitter with the ability to produce in game. Contact with doubles power, can defend multiple positions, and has an accurate arm across the infield.

Keegan Mahoney OF / LHP / Wakefield, VA / 2023Arguably the best overall weekend for any uncommitted upperclassman at the event. Showed really well on the workout day. Arm strength in the outfield, better in game runner, and smooth stroke from the left side. On Sunday, Mahoney jumped on the mound and took another step forward. The breaking ball was the big winner for Mahoney on the mound. It was a 12/6 breaker with plenty of depth and elite spin that got up to 2880 RPM. The breaking ball allowed the low 80's fastball to play up just a touch.

Alex Ozuna-Nunez SS / 2B / Jackson-Reed, VA / 2023How this bat is still uncommitted is beyond me. The kid can flat hit. Loose hands, feel for timing, and bat has length in the zone. Continues to show a knack for getting the barrel on the ball. Long term defensive profile is maybe more corner, second-base, left field, but the hands work in the infield and the bat plays so well that you have to find a way to keep him in the lineup. 6-foot-3, lanky, and room to add good weight.
