Michael Taylor commits to George Mason

2014 Top Prospect Games participant and Osbourn High School left handed pitcher Michael Taylor has verbally committed to attend George Mason University. Taylor is the 9th 2014 Top Prospect Games player to commit to a Division I school since the event. He will join fellow Prospect Games participant and future battery mate Jared DiCesare of Chantilly at George Mason in the fall of 2016. The Osbourn Eagles are coming off of a rebuilding season in 2014, but did manage to make an appearance in the 6A North Regional tournament before West Springfield ended their season. The Eagles look to take a step forward as they return most of their major contributors from last year’s team.
Taylor has an athletic 6-foot-1 frame. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot and generates easy velocity. He has smooth mechanics and stays on line throughout his delivery. Taylor threw a heavy fastball at the Prospect Games with late run on it. He worked at 84-85, touching 87. Taylor threw a power curveball with 2/8 break that was 76-79 and made heavy use of his change-up, which he threw with full armspeed at 75-79 with good late run. Taylor showed good command of all three pitches, pounding the zone at the knees.
When he arrives at George Mason, Taylor figures to be able to contribute immediately as a mid-week starter who can be a power arm in the bullpen on the weekends. As he continues to develop, Taylor has the physical tools to develop into a Friday night starter for the 2014 Atlantic 10 Champs. As an athletic lefty with velocity and arm action, Taylor has a bright future ahead of him.
