Maryland Top Prospect Games: Outfielders Notebook

This week we are diving deeper into last Tuesday's Top Prospect Games breaking down by position the statistical leaders, top performers and players to keep an eye on. Today we begin with the outfielders.

2019's to JUMP ON:

Justin Carboni OF / RHP / Walt Whitman, MD / 2019 Last week we touched on how impressive a day Carboni had last Tuesday. Carboni showed how valuable a player he is defensively early in the game when he dove full extension in the left center gap to rob a base-hit double. His ability to get a good jump and speed was evident on that play as well as two innings later when playing in right field, he robbed another extra base hit ball down the line. Carboni showed arm strength and accuracy from the outfield during the workout and squared the ball up hard on two of his three plate appearances. He will not be uncommitted long so jump on him now.

Ben Nardi 1B / OF / Winston Churchill, MD / 2019 Impressed with the bat at the Top Prospect Games. Exit Velo of 90 mph and two really nice rounds of BP. Nardi uses a high leg kick for rhythm and timing and really attacks the ball aggressively whipping the bat head through the zone showing quick hands. Nardi showed pull side power taking three off the wall in his second round of BP. He just missed a few in the game but showed some wheels getting down the line. If your looking for lefty middle of the order guy that can swing it, you may consider jumping on this 2019 prospect.

Derrick Booker OF / Archbishop Curley , MD / 2019 Had a very solid showing at the TPG last week, especially at the plate. Booker ripped a triple to the pull side gap and went oppo for an RBI double later in the game showing off his wheels motoring around the bases twice. Booker also demonstrated a good eye and patience at the plate. The lefty is balanced at the plate and has a smooth swing. The power will come as he continues to fill out but what a great asset he will be for any program that gets him.

Ryan Kulick OF / RHP / Howard, MD / 2019 Another left handed hitting outfielder to jump on is Ryan Kulick from back to back state champion Howard High School. Kulick shows good balance and rhythm in the box and stays on the ball well using the whole field throughout his BP and in the game Tuesday. He has some pop in his swing now but that could change significantly as he learns how to use his hips and lower half more.

2020's to KNOW:

Charles Hafer OF / C / John Carroll, MD / 2020 Hafer had a great Top Prospect Games showing he could play multiple positions (catcher and OF) and that he can really swing it. His swing is short, compact, and explosive. His hands are quick and the ball just jumps off his bat. He doubled during the game and flew out on a squared up ball to the warning track in centerfield. Hafer is not only a guy to know now but also a prospect that should be very fun to watch develop over the next year.

Cameron Snyder RHP / OF / Northern , MD / 2020 Interesting dual-guy (OF and RHP). Projectable 6’2’’ 180 lb frame. Was 78-80 off the bump with more in the tank. Short arm action and over the top delivery, 68 mph 11/5 breaking ball and a 67-68 mph split-finger with late bite and good downward action. Quiet at the plate and keeps the bat head in the zone. Cuts his swing off sometimes but overall will be a nice dual guy to see develop at both spots.

Will Mracna: Mracna is another prospect to know coming out of this years TPG. Like Hafer, Mracna showed the ability to play multiple positions (outfield and shortstop) making him a versatile player for many programs. He shows quick hands and a quick bat at the plate. Projectable body at 6’0’’ 180 lb.

Eric Sledge: Showed a quick bat and ability to hit the ball to all fields. Stays in inside and behind the ball well. Occasional pull side pop. Sledge is super quick and can really go get it in the outfield. He is a nice ballplayer to get to know this summer.

2021's to WATCH:

Stevie Orsini OF / LHP / Poolesville, MD / 2021 Was up towards the top in measurables amongst outfielders at this year Top Prospect Games. 83 mph OF Velo and an 84 mph Exit Velo with the bat. His swing is short to the ball and really aggressive. He attacks the ball and showed some wheels in the outfield. Orsini made a name for himself this year and will certainly be one to watch for moving forward.

Zack Zindler OF / C / Walt Whitman , MD / 2021 Big leg kick to load, short to the ball with uphill shoulder tilt and good wheels. Shows ability to drive the ball gap to gap. Should be another nice prospect in the 2021 class to keep and eye on.
