2014 Top Prospect Games participant and Glen Allen High School outfielder Kyle Battle has verbally committed to attend Old Dominion University in the fall of 2016. Battle was accompanied at the Top Prospect Games by Glen Allen teammates Connor Dopp (RHP, 2017), Adam Collins (3B, 2016), and Hunter Cochrane (RHP, 2017). Glen Allen is a talented young team that finished third in the very strong Conference 20, which was won by eventual 4A State champion Hanover.
Battle stands 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, has a very projectable body, and posted the fastest home to first time of the Top Prospect games with a 4.37. Battle gets the ball out quick on his release and has an average arm from the outfield, 79 mph, with smooth actions. At the plate he has a smooth, line drive stroke to all fields, and the ball jumps off of his bat. He has a gap-to-gap approach and will put the ball in play and use his speed to create extra base hits.
When he arrives at Old Dominion, Battle’s outfield defense and speed will allow him to immediately contribute to the Monarchs. As he develops, Battle has the physical talent to grow into an outstanding defensive center fielder that has a speed and power combination that could allow him to bat near the top of the order and be an impact offensive player as well.
