Klein Deals as Stonewall Takes Down Park View

A warmer wet night saw Park View (Sterling) travel to take on Stonewall Jackson (Manassas) in a non-District game. Both teams have been playing better this spring than they have in recent years, but the Raiders would prove to have too much on the night as Stonewall defeated the Patriots, 8-0.
With a District game looming on Tuesday, Stonewall opted to go out of their normal rotation and send junior Mark Klein to the mound for the start and Park View countered with their own junior righthander, Bryce Hartman. Both pitchers would throw well, but Klein would become the story of the night as he carried a Perfect Game through five innings before it was broken up in the top of the sixth by a single off of the bat of freshman Elijah Kim. Klein would allow another hit in the inning but kept the shutout intact, finishing 6 innings of 2-hit ball with no walks an 9 strikeouts.
Stonewall got on the board in the second inning when Ryan Costello led off with a triple into the rightfield corner. He scored the game's first run on a Travis Sutherland sacrifice fly. The Raiders added another run in the inning on an error and led the game 2-0 after two innings.
The Raiders got things going again in the fourth as Sutherland reached on an error when he dropped a bunt with two outs. Mitchell Breeding and Ernie Gonzalez both singled to left, and in the process Sutherland came around to score on a wild pitch. Stonewall added two more runs when Nash McCarthy delivered a 2 RBI single up the middle, stretching the lead to 5-0 after four innings.
Stonewall tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and Gonzalez replaced Klein in the seventh, tossing a perfect inning and ending the game with a final score of Stonewall 8, Park View 0.
For Stonewall, Costello finished 1-2 with a 3B and a HBP. Breeding was 2-3 with a 2B and an RBI. McCarthy was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Kyle Romano was 1-3 with a walk and 2 RBIs.
For Park View, Hartman went 5+ IP, 7 R, 5 K. Kim was 1-2 and Quintin Van Sickle was also 1-2.
