The last week of the high school season in Virginia has seen some dominant pitching performances, including a remarkable string of no-hitters for such a short period of time. A tip of a hat to all of the hurlers who painted these masterpieces:

Warren County vs. Rappahannock County:
Pitchers:  Joseph Rutherford,
Michael Burrola, and Josh France
These three combined to no-hit Rappahannock County over five innings on Wednesday, April 15. They issued no walks and combined to strike out six. The only runner in the game reached on a hit by pitch in the fifth inning.

Patriot vs. Osbourn:
Pitcher:  Jacob Christian, RHP, 2015 (UMBC)
Christian no-hit Osbourn on Thursday, April 16. He struck out 13 while walking no one, the only baserunner in the game reached on an error in the fourth inning.

Patrick Henry vs. Mills Godwin:
Pitcher:  Chesdin Harrington, RHP, Patrick Henry, 2015 (Virginia)
Harrington no-hit Mills Godwin on Friday, April 17. He struck out 14 and also carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before issuing a 1-out walk.

Fishburne vs. Massanutten:
Pitcher:  Treavor Norman, P, Fishburne Military School, 2016

Norman tossed his second consecutive no-hitter on Friday, April 17 as the Caissons beat Massanutten Military Academy in five innings. Norman struck out 10 and walked three in this gem, and currently has a streak of 12 hitless innings alive, having struck out 26 batters during that stretch.

Rock Ridge vs. John Handley:
Pitcher: Nick Stewart, RHP, Rock Ridge, 2017
Stewart threw his no-hitter on Tuesday, April 22 against John Handley. The tall righty struck out 12 as he led the Phoenix to their second win in school history in their first season of competition.

Oakton vs. W.T. Woodson
Pitchers: Owen Lamon (RHP, 2017), Nick Piester (LHP, 2016), Justin Garcia (RHP, 2016), and George Webster (RHP, 2015)
This pack combined to no-hit W.T. Woodson on Wednesday, April 22 as they helped the 11th ranked Cougars to right the ship after a tough loss the night before to rival Chantilly.

James Madison vs. Hayfield:
Pitcher:  Matthew Favero, LHP, James Madison, 2016
Favero threw a five inning perfect game against Hayfield on Wednesday, April 22, striking out 12 of the 15 batters that he faced.

Woodbridge vs. Gar-Field:
Pitchers:  Grant Huckestein (RHP/OF, 2015) and Garrett Richey (2015), Woodbridge
Huckestein and Richey combined to no-hit Gar-Field over six innings on Thursday, April 23 at Pfitzner Stadium. Huckestein threw the first five innings, striking out 2 batters, and Richey struck out the side in the sixth to end the game.

Other performances of note this spring:

Mountain View vs. North Stafford:
Pitcher:
Jake Flett, P, 2015, Mountain View
Flett threw 7 innings of no-hit ball on, Thursday, April 16 against rival North Stafford. Flett struck out 4 during his outing. Unfortunately for him, North Stafford’s pitchers matched zeroes with him and the Wolverines eventually won the game in nine innings, 1-0.

Battlefield vs. Nitro (WV) and Battlefield vs. Gar-Field:
Pitchers:  Jake Agnos, LHP, 2016, Battlefield (East Carolina) and Colin Brown, RHP, 2015, Catholic
Agnos did not throw a no-hitter in the last week, but he did contribute to two consecutive ones earlier this spring. Agnos threw a complete-game, six inning no-hitter on April 2 in Myrtle Beach, striking out 11 as the Bobcats defeated Nitro (WV).  In his previous start, Agnos had tossed the first five innings of a combined no-hitter against Gar-Field on March 26, with Colin Brown (RHP, 2015, Catholic) finishing out the six inning game. In that game, Agnos struck out 12 and Brown struck out 2 batters.

Hanover vs Atlee:
Pitcher:  Grey Lyttle, RHP, 2016, Hanover
Lyttle ended the month of March by giving us a taste of what was to come in April as he no-hit Atlee on Tuesday, March 31.
