Holiday Showcase: Class of 2021/2020 Analysis

The 2019 Holiday Showcase took place on December 28th at Keystone State Baseball Academy giving our staff an final look at 30 prospects from threes states before the curtain closes on 2019. Today we conclude a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated from the Class of 2021 and 2020.

Class of 2021/2020

David Alleva, Bishop Eustace Prep (NJ), 1B, 2021
6-foot-1, 210-pound left-handed hitter is a physically advanced prospect that took the most complete round of batting practice on the day. He starts from a balanced setup and initiates his swing with a quiet lift-and-replace stride. Showcased the ability to drive baseballs routinely gap-to-gap with hands that work extremely well through contact. Creates significant backspin and shows signs of being a run producing, middle of the order bat at the next level. Registered an event best bat exit velocity of 92 mph and ran a 7.71 60-yard dash. Showed capable glove action at first base with accurate 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. Definite follow in this class.

Jonathan Bautista, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, RHP, 2021
6-foot-2, 200-pounder has a mature frame with a strong lower half and room to continue adding strength over the next few years. He sat 89-91 out of a 3/4 arm slot with an easy, loose arm action with late life to his fastball. Four seamer had riding action at 90-91 while two seamer was heavy with fade at 89-90. The uncommitted junior held his velocity out of the stretch. Curveball showed 11/5 shape with above average spin rate sitting 76-78. Changeup is a quality third pitch at 79-82 with some sink and good arm speed. High follow in this class will draw considerable interest from pro scouts over the next two years.

Joshua Bethas, New Oxford HS, 2B/RHP, 2021
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a flat barrel path with a rotational, largely upper body approach to his swing. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.46 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills with accurate 69 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 71-74 out of a 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also showcased a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 62-63 and a split change at 63-64 with some tumbling action.

Ryan Bhojwani, Bishop O'Connell HS (VA), SS, 2021
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Displayed balance throughout while staying through the baseball well creating consistent backspin with current gap power. Registered a bat exit velocity of 89 mph and ran a 6.84 60-yard dash. Showcased solid defensive actions while routinely playing through the baseball. Above average foot speed and 84 mph arm strength along with room to add additional strength to frame will allow for the ability to play multiple positions at the next level. Definite follow in this class.

Cooper Fiore, Pottsgrove HS, C, 2021
5-foot-8, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Stays in the hitting zone for an extended period of time and showed solid barrel awareness. Registered a bat exit velocity of 89 mph and ran a 6.95 60-yard dash. Flashed sound defensive skill set with 72 mph arm strength out of the crouch and pop times of 2.13-2.19. Received low 90s velocity in bullpen session with a quiet glove hand and presents a soft wall when blocking.

Bruce Leatherman, Bloomsburg Christian HS, OF, 2020
5-foot-9, 160-pound switch-hitter showed similar swings from both sides of the plate. Starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showed a flat path through the zone and a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.15 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball consistently in the outfield and showcased accurate 73 mph arm strength to home plate.

Eric Ludwick, Liberty HS, C/OF, 2021
Physical 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-handed hitter. Starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a big leg-lift stride. Showcased a strong lower half with a feel for the barrel and some present power. Registered a bat exit velocity of 90 mph and ran a 7.89 60-yard dash. Showed sound defensive abilities behind the dish with pop times of 2.08-2.15 and 73 mph arm strength out of the crouch. Transition in throwing motion is very efficient and flashed good carry through the bag. Also displayed an ability to play through the baseball in the outfield with accurate 83 mph arm strength.

Thaddaeus Lydon-Warner, Haddonfield Memorial HS (NJ), 3B/RHP, 2021
5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitter took one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day. Starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Lower half and hands both work very well through content and shows above average intent. Creates backspin routinely with a gap-to-gap approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.64 60-yard dash. Feet work well at third base and showed the ability to play through the baseball with solid carry on throws of 83 mph across the diamond. Also impressed on the mound sitting 83-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a loose, whippy arm action. Gets downhill well on his fastball and creates consistent arm-side run. Curveball at 71-72 showed tight, sweeping 11/5 action. Changeup is also a quality pitch with late cutting action at 78-79. Quality two-way prospect is a definite follow in this class.

James Miskanic, Parkland HS, 2B, 2021
5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed quick hands with a short, line drive swing path. Registered a bat exit velocity of 73 mph and ran a 7.38 60-yard dash. Showcased sound fundamentals defensively with accurate 73 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Colin Myers, Roman Catholic HS, 2B, 2021
5-foot-5, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Hands work well through contact with a direct swing path and balance throughout. Showed an ability to use all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Attacks the baseball defensively, consistently playing through the baseball with a quick release and accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Eddie Owens, Plymouth Whitemarsh HS, 2B, 2021
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to begin from a deep hands load position. Displayed a direct swing path with a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 77 mph and ran a 7.73 60-yard dash. Showcased a soft glove hand while playing through the baseball routinely with 67 mph arm strength best suited for 2nd base.

Ryan Ramler, Germantown Academy, C, 2021
5-foot-9, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed balance throughout with a direct swing path and a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 65 mph and ran a 7.97 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills behind the plate with 64 mph arm strength and pop times of 2.32-2.38.

Caleb Strawser, Hershey HS, C, 2021
5-foot-10, 200-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Sits on back side and uses lower half well with above average intent in a solid gap-to-gap approach. Routinely creates backspin with some present gap power. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran an 8.50 60-yard dash. Showed sound defensive fundamentals behind the plate with pop times of 2.19-2.26 on throws of 68 mph from the crouch. Also showcased capable actions around the bag at first base with accurate 72 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Asa Wilson, Exeter Township HS, C, 2021
6-foot-3, 180-pounder put together one of the most impressive all around performances of the day. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to begin. Showcased a solid feel for the barrel and a flat barrel path through the zone while making consistent loud contact. Registered a bat exit velocity of 91 mph and ran a 6.93 60-yard dash. Polished receiver continues to show development behind the dish. Flashed top pop times of the day at 2.00-2.05 on throws of 77 mph out of the crouch with above average carry to the bag.
