SCOUTING REPORT
Top Prospect Games East
Hustead is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that still has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a wider balanced athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, quick to contact with some extension through ball, slightly uphill path. Swing generates line drives with some carry, showed a slight pull preference, exit velocity was 78. In the outfield, rounds ball and fields with average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a quick loose arm action, outfield velocity was 87. Ran a 7.03 60 yard dash. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short lightning quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly downhill and closed, lands slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball 82-84, touching 85 with some late run to armside. Curveball was 70-73 with good armspeed and sharp 11/5 break. Ability to throw strikes with both pitches to both sides of the plate.

Hustead came on in the seventh for Anderson and ended up throwing two and one-third. He came in and you could tell the adrenaline was pumping. Fastball was up as he was juicing it up a little with the Hawks needing the final out. He sat 84-86 in the seventh and could not establish the breaking ball, as he was running away from the arm a little bit. Loose free arm and throws with intent. In the eighth and ninth the velocity dropped some to 81-83, but did manage to establish the breaking ball in those last two innings. Curveball sat between 68-71 mph on the night.

Hustead has an athletic frame with some projection. Solid pace to the delivery getting to the balance point over the rubber. Is under control throughout and pitches with intent. Shoulders are level as he moves towards home and lands on line with head falling off slightly towards first. Quick arm throwing from high three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat at 84-85 and touched 86 once in one inning of work. Curveball had 11/5 shape and threw it with present armspeed with a hard late break at 71-73 mph. Showed feel for the fastball and curveball and attacked hitters throughout the count. A must follow arm over the next four years as he continues to grow into his frame.
