Throughout Wednesday, July 26-Saturday, July 30, 2023 Prep Baseball Report Future Games were held in Emerson, Georgia at our LakePoint Sports Complex. For this event the various PBR staffs from around the country selected the best uncommitted rising juniors and sophomores to form teams to represent their state or region in the event, bringing well over 450 of the best uncommitted players in the United States and Canada to one four field quad for 4 days.
For this event, players from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC were selected to form Team Mid-Atlantic. Players on Team Mid-Atlantic had a position player showcase workout on Wednesday and then played in three games, one per day, Thursday-Saturday, going 1-1-1 against Team Florida, Team Carolinas, and Team California. Scouts from all 30 MLB teams and well over 350 college coaches were in attendance.
Burton's Analysis
Nate Hawton-Henley OF / SS / St. John's, VA / 2025Compact frame, higher end athleticism, and twitch in actions. While there is some polish to his game, I think there is still a lot of untapped potential. Solid bat to ball and higher contact rate, but doesn’t always impact the baseball in a big way. A lot of the at bats I have seen this spring and summer have resulted in middle/backside output, but has the bat speed, hand speed, and strength to turn it and produce some power to the pull side. The St. John’s outfielder has plenty of footspeed, range, and arm strength to play all three outfield spots. In the four days I had a chance to spend around Hawton-Henley, he seems like a really good teammate, high energy, and coachable. Has some two way potential on the mound. Really raw, as he has not been pitching long at all, but is an easy upper 80’s arm that throws strikes. Has shown the ability to spin and there is more velo in the tank. Definitely a position first guy, but has some talent on the mound to fall back on and bring more value to the profile. |
