Freshmen Free Central: Pitcher Breakdown Part 1

In late February, over 80 players from all corners of DC and Virginia descended on RockIt Sports in Richmond, Virginia for the Freshmen Free Central, our second event of 2021. Today, we begin our breakdown of the event with the first half of the pitchers:
Giovanni Briggs 1B / LHP / Cosby, VA / 2024Briggs is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, long loose arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive crossfire delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 77-80, with late armside run and a bit of sink as well. Curveball was 69-70 with good armspeed and sharp 1/7 break to it, some shape present. Change-up was 74-75 with good armspeed and late hard fade. Showed ability to throw all three for strikes. |
Colin Bunch RHP / 2B / King George, VA / 2024Bunch is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, breaks long before shortening up to a loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 82-85, with some downward plane and a bit of late armside run. Curveball was 67-68 with good armspeed and sharp 11/5 break to it, some shape present with a chance to sharpen more as he develops. Change-up was 76-77 with good armspeed and some late hard fade. |
Gavin Cunningham 3B / RHP / Albemarle , VA / 2024Cunningham is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 69-71, touching 72, with downward plane and some late armside run. Curveball was 57-58 with some armspeed and gradual 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 57-58 with some armspeed and some late run to it. |
Elijah Day LHP / OF / CVHAA, VA / 2024Day is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, long free arm action with some quickness and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 73-76, touching 77, with some late hard armside run. Curveball was 60-61 with good armspeed and gradual 1/7 break to it that has some shape and potential to sharpen into a good pitch. Change-up was 63-64 with some armspeed and heavy sink to it. Knuckleball was 61-66 some armspeed and tumble to it. |
Caleb Dennis C / RHP / Currituck , NC / 2024Dennis is 5-11 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, long loose arm action with some effort to his delivery. Some drop and drive in his delivery, shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 72-75, with some downward plane and boring action to the armside. Curveball was 60-65 with good armspeed and gradual 1/7 break to it that has some shape present. Change-up was 67-69 with some armspeed and sink to it. |
Ty Enoch SS / 2B / Charlottesville, VA / 2024Enoch is 5-9 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, long free arm action with normal effort to his delivery. Drop and drive crossfire delivery, shoulders are slightly downhill and closed, swings to an open landing with an athletic finish. Fastball was 73-76, with some downward plane and some late armside run that has depth. Slider was 60-61 with some armspeed and gradual 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 61-64 with some armspeed and armside run to it. |
Chase Fultz RHP / 3B / Glen Allen, VA / 2024Fultz is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, long free arm action with normal effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly open with a fall off finish. Fastball was 66-68, with some armside run. Curveball was 58-59 with some armspeed and gradual 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 60-61 with some armspeed and sink to it. |
Trey Gauch RHP / 3B / Deep Run, VA / 2024Gauch is 6-2 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, long loose quick arm action with some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery with some crossfire to it, shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly open with a fall off finish. Fastball was 79-82, with late hard armside run. Curveball was 66-68 with good armspeed and late sharp 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 71-72 with good armspeed and some fade to it. |
Justin Gunter RHP / 3B / Buckingham, VA / 2024Gunter is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action with some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 83-85, touching 86, with a bit of downward plane and some late armside run. Curveball was 66-67 with good armspeed and late sharp hard 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 75-76 with good armspeed and some late run to it. |
Seth Harrison C / RHP / Matoaca, VA / 2025Harrison is 5-7 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, long free quick arm action with some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive crossfire delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 75-77, with a bit of downward plane and some late armside run. Curveball was 65-66 with good armspeed and gradual 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 71-72 with some armspeed and sink to it. |
Jacob Lee C / RHP / Matoaca, VA / 2024Lee is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and projection left to it. He throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, long loose quick arm action with some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 83-85, touching 86, with a bit of downward plane and some late hard armside run, run is heavier on his two-seamer. Slider was 79-80 with good armspeed and late 10/4 break to it, some shape, chance to sharpen into a swing and miss pitch. Change-up was 71-73 with some armspeed and run to it. |

Dillon Mickles RHP / SS / New Kent, VA / 2024Mickles is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, long loose arm action with some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands open with a bit of a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 72-74, touching 75, with some downward plane and some late armside run. Curveball was 64-65 with some armspeed and big gradual 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 63-67 with some armspeed and heavy sink to it. |
Barrett Motter OF / RHP / Prince Edward, VA / 2024Motter is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it.
