On Wednesday July 26, PBR VA/DC hosted a Freshman Free Showcase at Patriot High School in Northern Virginia. Players from three states and the classes of 2021 and 2022 showcased in front of the PBR VA/DC staff at the event and had their videos and stats taken. Here is the first part of our analysis of the event.

Jordan Biggs RHP/3B 2021 Jefferson (WV)
Biggs is a 6-0 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open upright stance. Short stride on line, loads back, maintains balance throughout swing. Level swing path, short to ball, good approach worked gap to gap, exit velocity was 78. At third, clean feet, fields ball with a good base and above average hands, plays through it to a clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 72. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands open with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 73-74 with some late sink and run to it. Curveball was 61-64 with gradual 12/6 break and some armspeed.

Devin Bollinger RHP/3B 2021 Smithsburg (MD)
Bollinger is 5-7 with a lankier athletic frame, hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Strides on line, loads back with a wrap, explosive lower half and some balance to swing. Swing works uphill with a pull preference, exit velocity was 67. At third base, gets behind ball and plays through it. Throws from low three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 62. On the mound, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a longer, free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 65-67 with late sink. Change-up had heavy sink and was 55-58. Curveball had late 10/4 break and some armspeed, running 54-56.

Colin Briggs SS/RHP 2021 Colonial Forge
Briggs is 5-8 with an athletic frame, hits from a slightly open athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back and some rhythm to swing. Full hip rotation and good balance to swing. Works uphill through the ball with extension, pull preference, exit velocity was 70. At short, quick, clean feet, fields ball with a good base and soft hands. Clean exchange, works through the ball, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 70. Ran a 7.28 60 yard dash. On the mound, drop and drive delivery, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a longer arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are level and on line, lands open with a fall off finish. Fastball was 68-69, touching 70, with a bit of late run to it. Curveball was 57-61 with sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 61-63 with good armspeed and fading action.

Trevor Bush C 2021 Colonial Forge
Bush is 5-10 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back, rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and good balance. Slightly uphill line drive swing with extension through the ball, good approach worked middle of the field, exit velocity was 71. Behind the plate, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 64 and pop times were 2.28-2.39. Sways well when receiving and is good laterally blocking the ball.

Lee Byrd RHP/3B 2021 North Caroline (MD)
Byrd is 5-11 and has a lankier athletic frame, hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride, smooth load back, hips explode and has some balance during his swing. Works uphill through the ball, pull approach, exit velocity was 74. At third, gets behind the ball and plays through it, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 70. On the mound, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a longer arm action that is whippy with easier effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands on line to slightly closed with a bit of fall off to finish. Fastball was 73-76, touching 77, with a bit of late run to it. Change-up was 65-68 with heavy sink. Slider was 60-63 with hard 10/4 break.

Drew Downing SS 2021 Matoaca
Downing is 5-9 with an athletic frame and hits from the left side from an open balanced stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, explodes hips while driving back knee down, maintains some balance during swing. Short to the ball, works uphill through it with extension, pull approach, exit velocity was 76. At short, clean feet, fields ball with wide base, rounds it well, above average hands. Clean exchange, plays through ball, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 73. Ran a 7.54 60 yard dash.

Maxwell Ehrhardt 3B 2022 Patriot
Ehrhardt is 5-4 with an athletic frame and hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, some rhythm to a simple swing. Explosive lower half and good balance during swing. Short to ball, good barrel awareness, worked slightly uphill with extension through the ball, used whole field, exit velocity was 70. At third, gets behind the ball and fields it with a good base and above average hands. Plays through the ball, clean exchange with a good rhythm. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with an infield velocity of 67.
