Millbrook High School outfielder and Class of 2017 Prospect Games participant Conor Hartigan has committed to attend Coastal Carolina in the fall of 2017. Conor will follow in his older brother, Ryan Hartigan’s (2015, Virginia) footsteps on his path from Millbrook to Division I. Hartigan was the highest remaining player in the Class of 2017 Rankings before his commitment. After his decision, the entire Top 10 has made a verbal commitment. Millbrook will be stacked this spring, as Hartigan is the fourth current Pioneer and third from his class to commit to attend a Division I school, joining Alex Amos (MIF, 2016, Pittsburgh), Ryan Kennedy (LHP, 2017, Kennesaw State), and Top 10 ranked Anthony Simonelli (RHP, 2017, Coastal Carolina).
At the Class of 2017 Prospect Games in July, Hartigan hit from a narrow stance that was tall and balanced. He had good rhythm in his hands and took a slight load back with a short, controlled stride, occasionally striding to an open front foot. He had explosive hands and lower half that produced a bat exit velocity of 96 MPH. Hartigan maintained balanced throughout swing. His swing path worked uphill and to pull side where he has pull power. His rhythm got stiff at times during batting practice. In the outfield, Hartigan had a long and loose arm action and threw from a high three-quarters arm slot and registered a positional velocity of 88 MPH. His throws had accuracy and life on them. He displayed soft hands and footwork that was quick and fluid. Hartigan did a good job playing through the ball and exploded with his legs on his throws. He is an athletic outfielder with good feel for his footwork.
When he arrives at Coastal, it will first be interesting to see if Hartigan will room with Simonelli, or just simply carpool with him. After that, Hartigan should bring an immediate impact as an athletic outfielder who can play all three positions well and hit in any part of the lineup. Hartigan has the physical talent and frame to eventually develop into a prototypical three-hole hitter with a great combination of power and speed who can stay in Centerfield and play elite defense with a strong arm. Hartigan has the tools to be a professional draft pick at some point in his career.
Congrats Conor!
