No. 17 Battlefield got off to a good start for their 2016 campaign as senior lefthander Jake Agnos (East Carolina) picked up right where he left off in 2015, tossing a complete game, 17 strikeout no-hitter of the No. 18 C.D. Hylton Bulldogs. Agnos was dominant early and was perfect into the sixth. Agnos struck out the first six batters of the game and fourteen of the first eighteen.

Agnos ran into a little difficulty with two outs in the sixth as he walked leftfielder Colin Verberg, hit centerfielder and leadoff hitter Ben Marotske (Randolph Macon), and walked second basemen Jaran Davis to load the bases for senior shortstop Fox Semones (James Madison). Agnos lost his shutout during the at-bat as Verberg scored on a wild pitch. Eventually Agnos would get Semones to swing through a fastball for his fifteenth strikeout to end the threat with Battlefield ahead 7-1 and the no-hitter still intact.

Agnos worked around a walk in the seventh with help from a nice play up the middle by senior shortstop Elan Goodwin (Delaware State) and two more strikeouts, including one to end the game and finish his gem, the third that he has either thrown or contributed to since the start of the 2015 season.

The Battlefield offense got off to a quick start in the first inning, scoring three runs off of Hylton senior starter Trey Shepard (Walters State CC). Junior third basemen Brandon Austin had a two-out, RBI single in the inning to drive in the second Bobcat run.

The Bobcats put the game away in the fourth inning as they added three more runs, two coming on a single to left-center by senior first basemen Brady Harju.

Austin finished the day 3-4 with a double and 2 RBIs and junior catcher Tyler Solomon (Vanderbilt) went 1-2 with two walks. Harju was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Goodwin finished the night 0-2 with two walks and two RBIs. Sophomore designated hitter Reese Varley finished the night 1-2 with a hit by pitch, a walk, and two runs scored.
