Outlook:
Nansemond River is coming off of an outstanding 2014 season that saw them win the Ironclad Conference and advance to the 4A South Region semi-finals before falling in extra innings to Derek Casey (UVA) and eventual state champ Hanover. The 2015 Warriors might be even better than last year’s squad as they return their entire infield some quality arms. The lineup will be led by All-State shortstop Kieton Rivers (MIF, 2015), Dion Jordan (OF, 2016), Will Davis (OF, 2016), and precocious youngster Jarrid Johnson (MIF, 2017). The pitching staff will be led by Robert Fitzwater (RHP/CIF, 2015), Matthew Holt (RHP/1B, 2016) and Michael Blanchard (RHP, 2016). The Warriors will be very strong defensively and on the mound this spring and have a talented, deep lineup. Nansemond River is the early favorite to repeat as Ironclad Conference champs and the Warriors are talented enough to win the 4A South and make a run at the State Championship.
