Over the coming months, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC will take a look back at the 2015 season for each school that finished the spring in the final 2015 Power 25. In each article, we will not only recap the successful seasons of these 40 schools, but highlight the individuals who drove that success and preview what the outlook is for each team in 2016.

40. Western Albemarle Warriors

Season Recap: Western Albemarle finished the 2015 season with a 19-5 record. The Warriors won the Jefferson District and advanced to the 3A West Regional Tournament, where William Byrd eliminated them with a 7-4 win in the Regional Quarterfinals.

Key Performers:
Josh Casteen
(2015)-Casteen led the Warriors in wins and finished second in innings pitched. Casteen went 7-1 and posted a 1.85 ERA over 45.1 innings pitched. Casteen was a Second Team All-Conference 29 selection.

Derek Domecq (2018)-Domecq led the Warriors in innings pitched and at-bats and was an All-Region and All-Conference selection as a utility player. The lefty posted a 2.15 ERA on the mound while going 6-2 and striking out 61 batters in 55.1 innings on the mound while only walking 15. At the plate, Domecq hit over .340 and had on on-base percentage of over .400.

Henry Kreienbaum (2016, James Madison)-Kreienbaum led the Warriors in batting average, hitting over .500 for the season. He also led the team with 35 RBI’s and was second in doubles (7), first in triples (6), and hit two home runs. Kreienbaum was selected First Team All-State, All-Region, and All-Conference.

Stevie Mangrum (2015, Virginia Tech)-Mangrum is now a Hokie and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 28th Round of the Major League Baseball Amatuer Draft in June. Mangrum was named the Conference 29 and 3A West Player of the Year and was also honored with a First Team All-State Selection. Mangrum led the Warriors in doubles (9), home runs (7), and stolen bases (8) while still hitting over .450.

2016 Outlook: The Warriors will be hurt by the losses of Mangrum, Casteen, Dylan Weiss, and Harrison Lund. Western Albemarle should still be a very strong club and competitive in 3A West as the Warriors will bring back Kreienbaum to anchor the lineup and two of their top three arms in Domecq and Sam Hearn.
