31. amherst county lancers

Season Recap:

Amherst County compiled an 18-4 overall record and won the Seminole District regular season championship for the third season in a row and won the Conference 23 Tournament Championship for the second year in a row. The Lancers went to the 4A North Regional Tournament and advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated in a tight game by eventual State Runners-up Jefferson Forest.

Key Performers:

+Jason Thacker: (P, 2015) Thacker was the Seminole District and Conference 23 Pitcher of the Year and was named 4A First Team All-State.

+Nathan Trevillian: (RHP, 2015) As far as number two options go, Trevillian was pretty good and was committed to Liberty before being drafted and signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates (22nd Round).

+Travis Wood: (1B, 2016) Wood was the Seminole District and Conference 23 Player of the Year and hit .510 on the season for the Lancers. He was also was named 4A First Team All-State.

+Nathan Lloyd: (OF, 2017) Lloyd hit .490 for the season for Amherst and was named 4A Second Team All-State as a sophomore.

2016 Outlook:

The Lancers return six starting position players including catcher Christian Campbell and 2015 All-State honorees Travis Wood and Nathan Lloyd. The Lancers will lose Thacker and Trevillian from their rotation but have depth on the mound in Ezra Baier (OF/RHP, 2017), Hunter Jennings, Will Knight, and James Wyatt Leonard (LHP, 2016). The 2016 Lancers are the early favorites to continue their District and Conference Championship streaks and Amherst is a threat to go deep in what is a very good 4A West Region after the off-season re-alignment.
