Season Recap:

Douglas Freeman made their third straight trip to the State Tournament in 2015, capturing the Colonial District Championship and sharing their Conference Championship on their way to a 19-7 record and making the State Semi-finals before being eliminated by the eventual State Champion, Stone Bridge. The Rebels did all of this in spite of an injury to their best returning pitcher and the team battled through adversity throughout the season.

Key Performers:

JT Bellotti: (MIF, 2015, CNU) Belotti anchored the middle of the Rebel Infield and earned Honorable Mention All-Conference at shortstop. Belotti hit .316 on the season and drove in 16 runs with eight doubles.

Logan Harvey: (C, 2015, Wake Forest)-Harvey was named to the 5A First Team All-State for the second year in a row and had an outstanding defensive season while hitting .358 and chipping in five doubles.

Daniel Lynch: (LHP, 2015, Virgina) Lynch was injured for most of the season but offered a huge impact when we has available, striking out 35 batters while only walking three in just 19 innings of work.

Andrew Mullen: (OF, 2015, Randolph-Macon) Mullen is one of six Douglas Freeman seniors to go to college to play baseball after graduation and received Honorable Mention All-Conference while hitting .283 and driving in 16 runs.

Eric O'Brien: (RHP, 2015, Hampden Sydney) O’Brien stepped up in a big way as the Rebels’ ace in Lynch’s absence. He went 9-3 with a 1.21 ERA while striking out 70 batters and walking just 19. O’Brien was named 1st Team All-Conference and 2nd Team All-5A South Region.

Travis Stackow: (1B, 2015, Hampden Sydney) Stackow earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors brought a big prescence to middle of the Freeman lineup, hitting .309 while scoring 20 runs and driving in 16 more. Stackow also provided some thump, tallying three doubles, three triples, and one home run.

2016 Outlook:

Douglas Freeman lost a lot of talent and experience to graduation after the 2015 season, including four different three-year starters and their top three arms which provided 100 quality innings for the Rebels on the mound. The lineup this spring has talent returning and will be anchored by returning All-State honoree Vincent Steenburgh (CIF, 2016), Coleman Greene (OF, 2016), Coby Sale (MIF, 2016, King University), and Luis Barrios (MIF, 2017). Freeman will be as talented as ever and should be dangerous again when the postseason comes around as the Rebels look to emerge from a very talented 5A South and go to States for the fourth season in a row.
