Salt Lake CC Scout Day: Positional Data Dive

On Wednesday, October 9th, the Prep Baseball Utah staff hosted it's annual Scout Day with the Salt Lake CC Bruins, Salt Lake CC Scout Day, on-campus at Cate Field in West Jordan, Utah. This event featured roughly 27 players, both freshman and sophomores, within the Bruins baseball program and gave coaches a chance to collected updated TrackMan and Blast Motion data on their players, as well as positional velocities and run-times.

Earlier this week, we broke down the top pitching data performers from the event with our Pitching Data Dive articles. Now, we will take a further in-depth look at the top position players and metrics with the help of our tech partnerships, broken down by the categories down below:

TRACKMAN

EXIT VELOCITY (MAX)

Exit Velocity – This metric measures the speed of the ball off the bat, measured in miles per hour (MPH).

EXIT VELOCITY (AVG.)

BATTED BALL DISTANCE (MAX)

Distance – This metric measures how far the ball traveled, or would travel if it was not obstructed, measured in feet.

BATTED BALL DISTANCE (AVG.)

HARD HIT %

Hard Hit % - Percentage of batted balls with an exit velocity of 90 MPH or higher.

BARREL %

BLAST MOTION

HAND SPEED (AVG.)

Hand Speed – The speed of the handle of the bat just before impact, measured in MPH. The handle is measured 6 inches from the knob of the bat.

BAT SPEED (AVG.)

Bat Speed – The speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact, measured in MPH. The sweet spot is measured 6 inches from the tip of the bat.

ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION (AVG.)

Rotational Acceleration – A measure of how quickly the hitter gets from launch position to being on plane. This is measured in G-Force (g).
