(Hitting Report)
Scholzen controls the zone and tracks well, giving him the tools to work walks and seek out hitter-friendly pitches to drive. There is some length to his swing at times, but overall it’s a smooth controlled short path with length thru contact. The bat speed and swing path allow him to both catch up to velocity and keep the barrel on plane for an extended period of time, creating contact points to drive the ball to the backside of the field, through the alley’s, as well as turn and burn on balls to pull for doubles and triples at present. There’s flashes of pull side juice in the air during game settings, that as he matures and finishes filling out, he will run into enough balls, to clear the pull side of the park, because of his high contact rate.
7/12/22
Positional Profile: SS/2B Body: 5-9, 165-pounds. Small frame with proportioned V-Shaped structure. Pound for pound strong with defined musculative relative strength. Hits: LHH. Even prop square stance w/his toes slightly turned in and balances on the inside part of his feet, which keeps him centered. Holds his hands above his back shoulder in a flat setup. Starts his bat in a timed manner with a slight rock back and a lift of the front foot. Soft at foot strike and then lays his bat open, similar to Jeter, and then takes his hands inside the baseball w/a tight flat compact stroke. Barrel gets into the hitting zone early and stays in the zone long. Gets quality ext out front w/an overall fluid swing path thru and into his finish. Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 86.2 MPH. 316' max distance. Arm: RH. INF-75 mph Defense: Plays with fluid educated feet with dance and bounce to the lower 1/2. Works out front and from the ground up. Plays through the ball and is adept and leaving his feet and making the horizontal play. Upper body strength pops him back up to give time to complete plays. Run: 7.30 runner in the 60. 7.3/60, yet looks and plays quicker in game action. Tight turns with proper angles and strikes the bag with his right foot, which tightens his turns and puts him on a quicker path to the next bag.

Austin Park SS / OF / Juab, UT / 2025
#1 Ranked 2025Week Four (March 27 - April 2) Stat Line: G 3 AB 9 R 6 H 5 HR 1 RBI 5 2B 1 SB 4 BB 4 SO 0 IP 3 H 3 R 0 ER 0 BB 1 SO 6 10/30/22
2022 PBR Future Games The #1 ranked ‘25 in the class and for good reason, the lean wiry athletic Park, has the makings of a really good player moving forward, as he took his turns through the workout, but kept things in check, as he is still preparing for the 3A State Football playoffs for the undefeated 10-0 Juab Wasps. A WR on the gridiron, and an uber projectable SS/CF on the diamond, Park is a 2022 PBR Future Games alum and already has some D1 offers on the table, but is in no hurry to make a decision, as he has 3 years at the HS level. Park had a great workout and the actions remained abv avg and looked very similar to that of his Future Games performances, however his data took some leaps forward over the last 3 months since LakePoint. He achieved his best tools marks of hand speed, 23.5, EV of 93.3, Avg EV 87.9, Max Distance 339, 7.01/60 on grass (soft track) vs. a 7.07 on turf in GA. He also fired off 83-84 mph easy accurate throws across the diamond from SS. Looking forward to seeing Austin next spring and the considerable gains and momentum he’s creating. 8/07/22
The top 2025 Position player in the state in this scouts opinion, regardless of others that may have committed and played for team USA. The upside of this kid is that of a HIGHLY athletic, lean long and twitchy 3 sport star with abv avg movement patterns. Park was first spotted at the Fall Prospect ID last November at Snow Canyon HS, and I’ve been squarely in this kids corner since. Was seen by every school in the state at the Top Prospect Games, July 12th at Pleasant Grove HS. Austin is skinny w/lean wiry strength and pound for pound strong, while oozing projection w/added weight/strength to come. The setup is semi wide w/a slight crouch and his bat held at a 45-degree angle. He shows hand and bat speed and the ability to sit back and recognize off speed mistakes and flashes HR power to the pull side now. Defensively he can play SS/CF and make each position look very natural. At SS he shows glove and athletic actions with soft hands and plays through the baseball. His arm is strong and accurate with 83 mph throws across the diamond and 85 from the OF. The arm is very loose and fluid and I can see upper 80’s across the INF and 90 from the OF over the next 2-3 years. Already has 2 D1 offers!

Last but not least, the loudest bat in the ‘23 class belongs to Kershaw. Alum of the Power Showcase HE Derby, the U Utah commit has ++ raw power and displays it almost immediately walking into the box in a BP setting. But he does it in games as well. The 2021 6A triple crown statistical leader as a sophomore, Kershaw has lift in a very powerful stroke to hit with a max EV of 102.6. He also shows big hand and bat speed metrics at 28.2 and 82, which are elite data points. Nicknamed the “Baby Bull” by yours truly, it’s caught on across the state, and he also reminds me of former big league hitter, Rusty Staub. For a big kid he can really whistle the bat and drive high and deep shots to the pull side. Look for Kershaw to contend for player of the year honors before his HS career cones to a close in 2023.

Petey Soto Jr. SS / OF / Crimson Cliffs , UT / 2023Rankings State Rank: 6 / POS: 4
Committed: Utah Tech UWeek Four (March 27 - April 2) Stat Line: G 3 AB 9 R 5 H 5 RBI 3 2B 1 3B 0 SB 2 BB 2 SO 1 3/06/22
The Dixie State commit is one of, if not the smoothest defender in the state, regardless of class. Have seen him play since he was 10 years old. Gifted with dancy, educated feet and plus movement patterns to allow for his glove to be in the right place at the right time. Also can play CF, and shows off a avg arm at 86 from the OF and 77 from the INF, though he doesn’t sell out for metrics, but just plays catch and throws K’s in all directions. Able to throw from multiple arm slots and do it EZ. From the plate, Soto has a quick twitch well synced up hitting stroke with good use of his lower ½ and looks the part of a young Francisco Lindor. An fringe to avg runner at 7.06 in the 60, yet his lateral quickness at SS, belies a player that moves within a circle of range, rather than a straight line runner. With an additional 15-20 lbs at maturity, this kid has a very high ceiling. 10/15/21
A slick fielding INF at 5-9 145, has a lean, even proportion frame with abv avg athleticism and can play all 9 spots on the Diamond. Soto can handle 3 INF spots along with CF and makes all look as if it’s his primary spot. A quick twitch live lower allows for graceful defensive actions and his feet/hands have a chance to play abv avg in time. His hands are smooth/quick and he plays from the ground up, while syncing his hands and feet, in getting off strong accurate throws across the diamond. The arm is avg by MLB standards now and will definitely be plus in the near future. A 60 yard dash time of 6.94 should improve even more over the next few years, as he fills out and continues to add size and leg strength. The bat has some Latin type flair in that he can be a free swinger and then also grind out an AB and spray LD’s to all fields. With a young immature body now, Soto can lift it out to the pull side when he squares it up. A conventional RH even props square stance, he gets quality separation and takes an aggressive, but lengthy pass at the baseball, with a fast bat. It will be fun to see where the versatile, athletic, flashy INF takes his game in the future. 7/31/21
A Future Games participant who is as athletic and bouncy as they come. A sleeper type candidate that draws attention with his movement patterns, quick twitch athleticism, soft flashy hands and his arm strength. A thin wiry strength type that has the dance needed for SS, and his actions attract your attention. Also worked out in the OF, and I’ve seen him play CF live and he he better there. He gets good reads and jumps and glides under balls with ease. He can run down balls in all directions and his hands are fluid and look the part out front when fielding the baseball in gathering to throw. An avg big league arm that flashes solid avg and has the makings of plus down the road as he continues to fill out and mature. Fun to watch!

Ethan Iacono RHP / OF / Mountain Ridge, UT / 2025Rankings State Rank: 12 / POS: 3
Uncommitted2023 PBR Future Games InviteWeek Four (March 27 - April 2) Stat Line: IP 5 H 2 R 0 ER 0 BB 0 SO 8 10/30/22
A young RHP that I'm looking forward to following throughout the 2023 spring. Iacono features a med frame to a lean, wiry projectable athletic build. There's definite room for added physical development, as he continues to mature and fill out. The delivery has the makings to project K's, as the base is in place, to continue to tweak some things and become a more efficient mover down the slope. A NWU delivery w/a med arm stroke and breaks over the rubber w/his outer spikes dug into the rubber for leverage and footing. The arm works properly and is clean thru release. The FB 82-85 T86 and has plenty of room to grow into a low 90's arm within a couple of years. Does feature the makings of FB spin of 2,289 max and can see a 2400-2500 in time, as the velocity grows and develops. The CB 73-74 with 2,285 spin max and once again, could reach as high as 2,400-2,500 with added forearm/finger strength. The CB 71-74 can back up at times and loose proper rotation, yet flashes the makings of a TQ SLV arc and shape with depth at times. Needs to continue to finish the pitch and rip the seams. If the tools translate to performance this next spring, Iacono will be on the short list for the PBR Future Games next July.

Kelly has been on my radar for a couple of years now, and I’ve seen him quite a bit at local Snow Canyon HS (14 active college baseball players - most in state), and I was able to see him for the first time since this last spring. Kelly is a strong fire hydrant type build w/a strong burly look and has really good leg strength. Kelly showed future solid avg raw power to the pull side with an EV max of 94.8 and drove one out to straight away LF at 356’. Also possessing one of the top 3-4 INF arms at the event at 84 mph across the diamond, Kelly also took his turn on the mound and spotted the FB to both sides, from 85-87 and wouldn’t surprise me to see 90 before next spring is finished. The separator on the mound, besides abv avg HS velocity, is the CB 74-77 featured spins of over 2500+. With 2 years of HS remaining, look for Kelly to be the next college baseball player coming from Snow Canyon HS.

‘21 A Future Game alum that I’ve seen quite a bit, but it’s been 5 months since my last look and Jake has smoothed out his swing and the ball jumps as it did a year ago, and there’s less violence. During the workout phase of the West Coast Games, the sweet spot found his barrel often, as he showed feel time up the baseball to the pull side w/solid rhythm and timing. The arm from the OF has some LTQ shoulder restriction from back to front/release. This makes the ball tail and go off like and he needs to work on his accuracy of his throws. Does run well for a big kid and has always been in the 6.8-6.9/60 range, every runner at the WCG’s was .2-.3 slower than their normal times, due to heavy rain the night before the workout, causing the running track to be slow. Jake’s tools are his running ability and he looks to steal bases and takes a good turn at 1B, while being aggressive in looking for xtra bases. Jake can hit velocity and when he is going right, he can juice the baseball from the pull side to RCF and does show pull side power, but he’s more of hard, xtra base to the wall type power. Needs to work on his defense, and instincts on the other side of the ball. But the metrics are there, the instincts to hit are there and he was a key cog in the middle of Olympus’ order, as the Titans were walked off in the deciding game 3 of the two of three format for the 5A Utah State Championship!
