Max Semler
North Texas Scouting Director

TEXAS - On Thursday, September 5th, we hosted the Weatherford JC. Players ran a 60, threw from their defensive positions and took BP. After the workout, we saw pitchers record their TrackMan data in a scrimmage setting. Below are some scout notes from the day.

+ Soph. 3B Trace Mazon - 6'1 190lb - R/R

4 hole hitter last year, showed ability to control strike zone limiting strike outs while hitting .339 on the year. Athletic with solid build. Strength present. 6.77 60. Bat speed present with solid approach to hit. Aggressive, showing some pull side power. Did not see take in/out battling little shoulder discomfort. In looks last spring, was solid defender at 3rd with athleticism, actions to slide over to 2nd in asked.

+ Soph. SS/OF Uriah Walters - 6'3 200lb - R/R

2 hole hitter last year, all conference player, hit .363 overall. Athletic with good build, shows body control and agility on defense.  6.65 60 hand timed. Bat speed present, solid contact off barrel when he worked with gap to gap approach, occasionally, got little long. Line drive approach, working all fields, is when he’s at his best. Defensively took in/out both at SS and RF. RF shows avg arm, moves well to baseball. SS…solid 1st step, feet work well, actions present. Avg arm, solid around the bag at 2nd on backend of DP.

+ Soph. 1B Manuel Salas - 6'0 245lb - L/R

Transfer from Odessa College where he hit .377, 21 doubles, 12 HR’s Big, thick build. Surprising movement ability for build/frame. 7.25 60 hand timed.  Impressive BP, hits em high and far. Plus raw power seen in BP. Bat speed with bat strength present. In game, shows the bat speed with aggressive approach, doesn’t get cheated. Lots of hand movement creating inconsistent timing with vertical launch resulting in some swing and miss. Approach worked for him last year, will get opportunity to circle back on him later this fall looking for improved timing. Certainly opportunities for adjustments to get in better launch position as well. Moves well defensively at 1st. Avg actions fielding baseball.

+ Soph. OF Mason Ashlock - 6'4 205lb - R/R

Transfer from Temple College where he hit .320, 5 HR’s. Good build with strength present. 7.11 60 hand timed.  Shows bat speed. Gets in solid position to hit with good load. Saw 2 different hitters, BP was more geared to showing off his power with a more driven approach. In-game, he showed the ability to use the whole field and still drive the ball with authority. Worked BB, 1B to CF and hard hit 6-3.  Defensively moves fine in the OF with fringe avg arm.

+ Soph. OF Kade Crawford - 6'2 190lb - R/R

Good build/frame, strength present with ability to add more. 6.75 60. Line drive contact with gap to gap swing. Shows ability to handle barrel. Dead stop approach with hands/barrel, good position to hit with body. Showed patience in game with hard contact. BB, hard hit 2B to RCF, F9. Moves well in OF showing range, arm works with below avg present arm strength.
