Semler's Prospect & Follow Reports: 3.25-3.20
April 3, 2024
Over the course of the season, North Texas Scouting Director, Max Semler, will be out scouting some of the top draft prospects in the Lone Star State. Semler has served as an area scout for four major league teams spanning the last 30 years and now joins the Prep Baseball Texas Staff. Today, we look at a mix of reports on propects and follows that Semler saw this past week. Definitions on "follows" below.
High Follow: scout this player. Present tools are there, he can enter pro ball and hold his own.
Low Follow: some present tools with a lot of projection or with college players limited upside. This does not mean this player is not a prospect, not a priority look to start the year.
Pocket Follow: no carrying tool presently to go out and play professionally or at a Major D1 program. But, does things on the baseball field that attract your attention. This type of player needs strength, needs to mature physically or with a pitcher…velocity needs to take a jump.

*Grades follow the 20-80 scale, with 50 used as the MLB average. |
- Strengths: Commanded baseball to both sides of plate today. Showed reach back ability with FB. Avg CB spin showing avg action. Like the angle that he had with SL and CH. Strikes today were good, he didn’t get a lot off plate for strikes, legit BB total.
- Weaknesses: Lack of history throwing strikes. Lack of consistency putting together quality outings. Staying healthy
- Summation: Good outing for Trent to build off. I have seen quality outings from Trenton previously, has never been able to repeat with any consistency. Remainder of the season, Trenton has a lot to prove. Must show command/control has improved and this outing wasn’t an aberration. Show consistent velo. 7 IP, 11K, 1BB, 1H. Aggressive working in zone, showed reach back ability. Worked both sides of the plate. The best outing I have seen from Trenton.
