Prep Baseball JUCO Wire: Top 10 Prospects for 2024
December 11, 2023
Junior College talent was well represented in the 2023 MLB Draft, with 44 players from the NJCAA ranks earning selections during the three-day event. The first two names to come off the board – LHP Kyle Carr (Palomar, CA) and LHP Christian Oppor (Gulf Coast, FL) were also Prep Baseball’s top two prospects on our 2023 Mid-season JUCO Prospect Rankings.
At this point, the 2024 JUCO class lacks a sure-fire Day One draft talent, but it's a talented group, featuring a mix of projectable arms and tooled-up athletes, many of whom are former highly-ranked prep prospects, previously drafted players and/or Division I bounce-backs.
The state of Texas once again looks to be a hotbed of JUCO talent with four prospects in the top ten and eight in the top 30. Florida is second with three in the top 10 and eight in the top 30.
As a future home, Oklahoma and LSU have put together the top JUCO recruiting classes to date. The Sooners have signed the No. 2 ranked prospect, two-way stud Gavyn Jones, as well as four others in our top 40. LSU has commitments from No. 1 Conner Ware, No. 10 Tanner Reaves and another high-level hitter in the top 15. The entire Top 150 will be released later this week.
Curated by Prep Baseball's JUCO Wire staff, the Top 10 list (and the to-be-released Top 150) is the product of first-hand scouting, data analysis, and conversations with coaches, scouts and other members from across the baseball industry. It reflects how these players are viewed as MLB Draft prospects heading into the 2024 season. The rankings only include those players who attended junior college this fall semester and do not include any mid-year transfers from four-year colleges.
