Prep Baseball Invitational Scout Blog: Pitchers

PBR TX Scouting Staff

TEXAS - Over the weekend, we hosted the Prep Baseball Texas Invitational in DFW at Flower Mound, Denton Guyer, VR Eaton and Little Elm. The field consisted of quality programs from around the state including, DFW, El Paso, and Houston. Our scouting staff was able to see a lot of good prospects on the weekend and today we highlight the pitchers that stood out.

+ 2024 LHP AJ Ripley - JJ Pearce - McLennan Commit
The McLennan recruit was nothing short of dominant on Friday night for the Mustangs. He had 13 Ks in 7 innings and pitched out of a few jams that were caused by errors. He has a bulldog mentality on the bump and it is fun to watch. The FB was 89-91 T92 and got a lot of swing and miss in the zone. The CB was sharp at 73-75 with good shape. He didn’t use the CH much but it was around 80 with some fade. He does a good job keeping his arm speed up on both secondaries. One of the top LHP’s in North TX.

+ 2024 RHP Dylan Buechele - Arlington - Oklahoma Commit
The Sr. righty took the mound for Arlington against the #1 ranked Flower Mound Jags, and proved to be tough to square up. The future Oklahoma Sooner really relied on his fastball/slider combo with the slider generating plenty of ugly swings.  The Jags eventually won out by working a lot of deep counts and earning some free passes, but when it was in the zone, Buchele won his fair share of battles. You can see an early path to innings in college with the slider giving him a real weapon. If the fastball command continues to make strides, Buchele is poised for a big senior season.

The TCU recruit got the ball in a matchup of top 10 teams. James was his normal self, displaying above avg. fastball command to both sides and and flashed an above avg. breaker when he needed it. The fastball peaked at 90 mph and sat 86-90 for the duration of his outing.  James has a super projectable frame, and it is easy to see him really taking off from a velo standpoint once he gets to Fort Worth. James has won a lot of big games for the Jaguars over the years, and he looks to lead them to another trip to Round Rock.
The UTA recruit got the start against James for Keller on Thursday night, and was impressive early. The lefty throws from a low slot with a good amount of arm side run on the heater. When he got to the glove side with the fastball, it was a real weapon and created some tough angles. He also flashes a breaking ball that showed potential when he threw it harder.  Taylor needs to command the fastball better, but the senior lefty is going to be tough to square up.

+ 2025 RHP Cooper Harris - Friendswood - Sam Houston State Commit
The sophomore got the game 1 start for the Jags on Thursday and had his best high school outing of his career so far. The talented righty really commanded his 3 pitch mix well, especially his fastball that sat 86-88. He threw a slower breaking ball that needs more power, but had good shape and the spin numbers were good as well.  He showed good poise and has the frame to continue to develop.  Flower Mound will need some depth if they plan on winning another state title, and Harris could be the next arm up for the Jags.

The Texas State recruit got the ball against a very talented Aledo team on Friday night, and led the Jags to a win. Glaser went 5 dominant innings on the mound, where he challenged hitters with his upper 80’s fastball and showed off two quality off speed pitches in his changeup and curveball. Glaser is the ultimate competitor who pitches with emotion. He punched out 10 on the night and ended up giving up 2 runs in 6 innings.

+ 2024 RHP Brady Baker - Wylie - Uncommitted
The senior uncommitted RHP got the start for Wylie against Flower Mound, and gave them a chance to win. The 6’4 Baker has a big, athletic frame that is easy to dream on. HIs fastball sat 84-87 for the duration of his outing, and I think he has a big velo jump still to come. He showed feel for his curveball and changeup on the day. I really liked the change against lefties, as it had good arm side run plus nice tumbling action. Baker is a strike thrower and has a frame that could see some big jumps once he is in college. He should be a hot commodity this summer. He is also a stick on the golf course.

+ 2024 LHP Blake Goodridge - Keller - Austin College Commit
The Sr. LHP got the start for Keller against Frisco Lone Star and was  in cruise control from beginning to the end.  The future Austin College Kangaroo went CG shutout allowing only 3 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings. The southpaw had 7 punchies on the day and his fastball sat in the low 80’s. He also did a good job of dropping in his breaking ball for a strike throughout the day. He is a different look from some of the hard throwers Keller runs out, but Goodridge can pitch.

+ 2025 RHP Devin Miller - Aledo - Uncommitted
One of the better pitching performances on the weekend belonged to Miller. The 6’3 righty got the ball against Pearland and went 5 innings and dominated the whole time.  He only allowed two hits and surrendered 0 free passes. He punched out 6 and showed the ability to really pitch. Stuff wise, Miller was 86-88 and touched 87 in the 5th. There is a lot of strength to stack on Miller’s frame and it is easy to dream on him having some velo jumps this year. He had a good feel of his secondary offerings and they both project to at least average.  Miller works with good tempo, and was one of my favorite arms on the weekend.

The Southeastern Louisiana recruit got the rock in game 1 for Keller and came out peppering the zone with an upper 80’s fastball.  The fastball played up on this chilly day, and he also cuts it occasionally causing his command to come and go. He has an efficient arm path that he repeats well and should allow him to be a strike thrower long term. The secondaries are behind the fastball, but he flashed some quality breaking balls. Just another talented arm part of a deep Keller pitching staff.

+ 2026 RHP Ivan Polydoroff - Keller
The sophomore righty came out of the pen for Keller and was very impressive in his outing. The 6 ‘3 righty saw his fastball sit in the 83-84 range and showed a loose, quick arm. He also threw a slower breaking ball at 70 mph that will improve as he gets stronger and throws with more power. The change showed potential at the 74-75 range and he threw it with good arm speed. Polydoroff may not be called on much when district play comes around, but the sophomore adds depth to an already deep staff.

+ 2024 RHP Alex Wilburn - Wichita Falls Rider - Uncommitted
Wilburn looked good on the bump for Rider this weekend. The FB was 86-88 with a quick arm and good life in the zone. He leaned on the BB at 74-77 and got plenty of swing and miss. He struck out 5 in 4 innings of work while walking 1. He is an athlete on the mound and is an interesting uncommitted 2-way prospect in the 2024 class. He will be a good addition to a roster at the next level.

Bowers looked good in his start on Saturday night for the Wildcats. The FB was 87-90 T91,92 with some arm side run out of a ¾ slot. The SL and CH both play well of the FB with the SL at 79-82 and the CH 79-80. He was a little wild to start the game but settled in and ended up only giving up 2 free passes in 5 innings. He tends to get into deep counts but when he gets ahead, he is a tough AB. He allowed 0 runs, 1 hit, and struck out 9 of the 19 batters faced. He is also the leadoff hitter for Guyer and impacts the game on both sides of the ball.

+ 2025 RHP Davin Seale - Denton Guyer - Uncommitted
Seale is an uncommitted Jr. with a quick arm. The FB was 85-88 on a cold night. He struck out 8 in 4 innings while scattering 6 hits and allowing 2 earned runs. He showed feel for spin on the BB at 72-75, using it as a put away pitch. He is a part of a good Guyer staff and will pitch meaningful innings for them this season.

+ 2024 RHP Christian Hubbard - Denton Guyer - Arkansas-Monticello Commit
Hubbard came on in relief for the Wildcats and was nails, going 3 scoreless. He struck out the side in his 1st inning and ended up going with 6 K’s and 2 hits, en route to a Guyer victory. The FB was 84-87 on a cold night and landed a BB in at 76-78 with good shape. He looks to be a solid option for Guyer out of the pen and will be a good addition for Arkansas-Monticello next season.

+ 2026 RHP Danny Bustamante - Arlington
Bustamante got the start for the colts and the sophomore showed some potential. Although the command was not consistent, he missed the barrel when right. The FB was mostly 83-85 but ticked down when he was in the stretch. The BB was 73-75 and plays well off of the FB. The young RHP is athletic and has more in the tank down the road for the Colts.
The Navarro commit and 2023 State Games participant didn’t have his best start of his career but still showed promising stuff. The FB was 88-91 T92 and the SL was 75-76 with good depth. The CH landed at 80-82. He struck out 6 in 4 innings for the Mustangs. He has a big frame which leads me to believe he has more in the tank down the road.
Furr was impressive on both sides of the ball this weekend. The athletic OF/LHP really understands how to pitch. He tossed a complete game shutout needing only 55 pitches in 5 innings, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 6. The FB was 79-82 and stayed out of the middle of the plate. The CB was 70-71 with good shape and the CH was 74 with fade. He has a high level of confidence on the diamond and is fun to watch.

The Baylor commit went 5 innings, striking out 8 and giving up 2 hits for Guyer in a chippy game against pearce. Although he was erratic at times, he was able to stay in it and keep the Wildcats in the game. The Sr. was 86-89 on a cold night and the BB got whiffs at 72-75. His release point is inconsistent at times as a part of a long arm path, but it creates deception at the same time. The frame suggests there is more to come on the velo down the road with added strength.
The uncommitted Jr. showed well at the plate all weekend then hopped on the bump and filled up the zone on Saturday. The FB was 82-84, CB 67-78, and SL 73-74. He went 5 innings and struck out 10, allowing 1 hit. Murilo did a good job getting ahead in counts and you can tell he likes to compete. Primarily the 3-hole hitter for Guyer, Murillo has showed that he is a reliable option on the bump.
The Centenary recruit went 5 strong innings for the bears on Friday. He pitches with confidence and is able to keep a low pulse in big situations. The FB was 79-82 T83 and used it to get ahead. He showed feel for the CB at 73-74 and got weak contact and swing and miss. He allowed no runs and led the Bears to a victory.

+ 2024 LHP Nolan McClure - Arlington - Uncommitted
The uncommitted LHP was solid in his start for the Colts on Saturday night in a pitchers duel. He went 5 innings, giving up only 3 hits, striking out 7 and giving up 1 run, which would be the only run of the game. After a walk and 2 hits, and a run in the first, he settled in as he got the feel for his CB, which is his best pitch at 70-73. The FB was 81-83 and he pounded the zone with it. McClure has a sturdy frame and will be a good option for the Colts this year.
The UTSA recruit looked good in 3 innings for the Broncos on Thursday. The FB has life at 87-90. The SL is small but firm at 80-81 and plays well off of the FB. He was able to generate some weak contact with both pitches. He allowed no hits but walked 2 on a rainy afternoon in Denton. He will be a key piece for the Broncos on the bump this year.
The physical sophomore went 5 strong innings for Guyer on Friday. He got ahead in the count for the most part and when he missed, it wasn’t by much. The FB was 82-85 but the fram suggests there is more to come. He showed a high level of confidence for both secondaries, a SL at 73-74 and a CH at 74. He struck out 9 in his start while allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 3 free passes.

+ 2026 RHP Anthony Ortiz - El Paso Eastlake
6’5, 200-pound RHP out of El Paso looks the part. Clean arm action, low effort delivery with good repeatability, stayed poise and calm in multiple different situations throughout the night. 3-pitch mix for strikes and threw slider and splitter in any count with good command. FB 81-83 T84, SL 73-74, SPL 71-73. Lots to like from the young arm with M2C.

Physical RHP, went 6 IP against V.R. Eaton on Thursday night in 40° weather. FB 87-89, flashing ASR, while flashing good shape to the breaking ball at 73-77 and CH at 77.

+ 2025 RHP Jake Qualia - Lubbock Cooper - Uncommitted
Uncommitted 2025 came out topping 88 on Thursday morning, sitting 85-86 most of the day flashing ASR. Qualia struck out 5 over 6 IP, mixing FB/CB most of the day, getting swing/miss on the CB when needed. CB 75-77, CH 79.
Young 2026 arm kept Lubbock-Cooper off the board to start the weekend, going 5 scoreless IP striking out 9. Clean, repeatable delivery allowing him to command the FB consistently with ASR to both sides of the plate. Showed ability to land the CB for strikes and get swing/miss as well.

+ 2025 RHP Owen Skinner - Mansfield Legacy - Uncommitted
2025 RHP/INF was dealing against Lubbock-Cooper on Saturday, striking out 12 over 8 IP. FB 82-85, controlling the top of the zone while also getting swing/miss and tunneling the CB out of the same window at 68-69 landing for strikes and getting swing/miss.

+ 2026 RHP Camden Markham - Frisco Wakeland
Physical RHP showed good control with the FB at the bottom of the zone, sitting 81-84, while mixing in the CB at 69-71, striking out 4 over 4 IP.

+ 2024 LHP Kai Bumpas - Frisco Wakeland - UT Tyler Commit
2023 State Games attendee went 5 IP against WF Rider on Friday, with command for all 3 pitches. FB 82-85, CB 70-72, CH 73-76. Bumpas showed good feel for both offspeed pitches with ability to throw both for strikes. FB and CH both showed good arm-side movement, coming out of the same window.

+ 2024 RHP Jenson Huffman - Aledo - Uncommitted
Uncommitted 2024 RHP went the distance on Thursday allowing 2 H while striking out 4. FB 83-85, CB 72-77 (up to 2743 rpm), CH 78-80. Huffman commanded the FB to both sides of the plate, while flashing a sharp CB that produced awkward swings.

+ 2027 Jake Jenkins - Mansfield Legacy
Young LHP got the start against V.R. Eaton on Saturday, FB 80-83, CB 66-68, CH 70-74. Settled in after the 1st inning, going 5 IP not allowing a run after the 1st. Jenkins pitched to contact and allowed his defense to work. FB flashed ASR while the CB showed a big 1/7 shape to it. Jenkins also showed he can handle the bat as well.
