Houston Summer ID: Quick Hits

Brandon Gowins
Texas Scouting Director

TEXAS - On Wednesday, July 10, we hosted the Houston Summer ID at Rice University. This event featured players from all high school classes. The day started with position players running a 60, throwing from defensive positions, and taking two rounds of BP. Following the workout, we went into bullpens where pitchers had TrackMan Data recorded. Today, we take a look at some of the standouts from the day.

+ FULL STAT SHEET

Dawson Hinson SS / Friendswood, TX / 2026

The two way talent from Friendswood put on a show Tuesday at Rice. He started his day by running a solid 6.81 60, showing good athleticism.  That carried over defensively, as he showed good bounce and soft hands at shortstop. He moved well left and right and looked comfortable throwing from different angles.  He showed off a + arm topping out at 92 mph.  At the plate, Hinson showed some pull side power with above avg. bat speed.  He left Reckling Park a few times and topped out at a max exit velocity of 97.5 mph. Hinson finished the day off on the mound where he showed off his arm talent. He topped out at 90 and sat in the upper 80’s with his fastball. He showed strike throwing ability with the pitch, and followed it up with a curveball and change. The change is ahead of the breaking ball right now, and showed good tumbling action. Overall, a very impressive day for the rising junior.

Dominic Giametta III OF / RHP / Fulshear, TX / 2027

The rising Sophomore put on a great showing on Tuesday. He showed loud tools and continues to show why he is one of the top 2027’s in the state.  He has a big arm that he showed off from right field. He topped out at 93 mph and profiles as a physical RF with juice.  His arm talent doesn’t stop in the outfield, he also hopped on the mound where he showed good command of an upper 80’s fastball. He showed the ability to sink it as well. His strong lower half helps him repeat his mechanics and he has a starter profile. He showed a feel for spin and the ability to throw a change.  Offensively, Giametta showed big power to all fields. He repeatedly drove the ball with authority to the back side, and had multiple 100+ exit velo’s up the middle. For his size, he has a short and direct path to the ball that allows him to use the whole field. Giametta is super physical for his grade, but the numbers are elite, and Giametta shows good baseball IQ on the field.

Davian Garcia OF / RHP / Veterans Memorial, TX / 2026

The rising Jr. from Corpus showed up with me not knowing too much about him, and he changed that in a hurry. Garcia was the last to throw from the Outfield, and I guess he knew he was saving the best for last because he delivered an event best 94 mph bullet to 3rd. The arm is plus, and he is a good athlete. He could play Center if needed, but profiles as a RF with a big arm.  At the plate, Garcia showed plus bat speed and a max exit velocity of 96 mph. The swing has some length to it, but there is some power there. Where Garcia really shined is on the mound. He threw his 4 pitch mix with confidence, led by his upper 80’s fastball. It has easy life to it, and he is going to continue to throw harder. He threw a split that he showed good feel for and really killed the spin. Where I thought he really impressed was with the spin. He threw 2 different breaking balls, a slider and traditional curveball. Both had distinct velo and shape differences.  The curve is more of a strike stealer that he throws in the low 70’s, and the slider sat in the upper 70’s with more sweeping action. A really good day overall.

Caden Schindler 2B / SS / Clear Creek, TX / 2025

Schindler had him a really solid day in all phases.  He ran the best 60 of the day at 6.78.  He followed that up on defense,  topping out 86 mph, showing the arm to stay on the left side of the infield. He had good actions and moved well laterally. At the plate, he showed a balanced, short stroke from the right side with good bat speed. He found the barrel consistently and stayed in the big part of the field. He topped out at 94.8 mph on exit velocity. The rising senior does a lot of things well, and should start to garner interest from more and more programs.

Braylon Hobbie SS / 3B / Magnolia, TX / 2027

I didn’t know much about the rising sophomore coming into the event, but he showed well all day.  Strong frame that is going to keep getting better. In the box, he showed some strength from a balanced swing, that he repeated and got off well.  He topped out at 95.7 mph with his exit velocity and I think that is just going to continue to improve. He showed really good actions on the dirt. He moved well and had soft hands. He profiles best at 3rd base long term, but has a chance to be really good there. He also hopped on the mound, and showed a low 80’s fastball that he threw for strikes. He also threw a curveball that he landed for strikes.  He has a compact, repeatable arm stroke that should allow his command to be solid. A nice day for Hobbie.

Alejandro Padilla C / 3B / BRIDGELAND H S, TX / 2026

Padilla had a nice day overall. He showed good feet and glove work at first and was solid behind the plate. He had a best pop time of 2.0. Where Padilla really stood out was at the plate.  The physical Padilla showed off big power potential, leaving Reckling Park multiple times. His blast numbers showed plus bat speed, and he topped out at 96.4 mph.  There is more room in the frame, and I think Padilla could develop into some real in game power.

Miles Horton C / 2B / Katy, TX / 2026

Horton showed well on Tuesday.  The rising Jr. showed good athleticism for a catcher that offers some power potential at the plate. His best pop time was 2.0 and he moved and received well behind the plate. Then at the plate, he showed some power potential with a max exit velo of 96.8 mph. Good athletes who can catch, that offer some power at the plate. Those guys are in high demand, and I expect Horton’s stock to continue to rise.

Caden Stambolis RHP / Taylor, TX / 2026

I have always been a fan of Stambolis and he continues to trend up. He sat in the mid 80’s topping out at 87 mph.  His fastball shows good life and carry at the top of the zone. He threw two different breaking balls. They were two distinct pitches and he showed the ability to land both for strikes. I like the slider more than the curve, but both are solid pitches. He throws an avg. change that will keep lefties honest. Stambolis has a strong frame, and should continue to see his numbers rise.
