Dallas Summer ID - Session II: Quick Hits

Max Semler
North Texas Scouting Director

TEXAS - On Monday, July 15, we hosted the Dallas Summer ID (Session II) at Lake Dallas HS. This event featured players from all high school classes. The day started with position players running a 60,  taking two rounds of BP, and throwing from defensive positions,. Following the workout, we went into bullpens where pitchers had TrackMan Data recorded. Today, we take a look at some of the standouts from the day.

+ FULL STAT SHEET

***For notes mentioned, I am grading against ML Players. If I say that a player has below avg arm strength, that is against ML Players, not their peers in HS.*** - North TX Scouting Director, Max Semler

Rock Duer OF / SS / Marcus, TX / 2025

Good build with strength to body and room to add more strength and weight. Switch hitter showing bat and hand speed from both sides of plate. LHH…starts slightly open with knee lift stride to slightly closed. Gets to backside with stride, rotational backside. Falls back slightly in swing creating uphill path. Overall direct path to baseball with hands and barrel. RHH…similar setup, stride and load to LH approach. Occ on heels with RH approach, backside inconsistent with swing. Hands and barrel in solid launch position, good path to baseball. When squared on barrel solid contact. Opportunities for adjustments on both sides of plate to maximize ability. 6.51 60. Outfield moved well to baseball, throws showed carry, on line to target. Avg 90 mph. Infield, solid 1st step and avg actions. Will have avg arm, fringe avg now in infield. Mid majors and JC’s should all be taking a look. This good player with tools to work with.

Dawson Chouinard 2B / RHP / Valley Mills, TX / 2027

Lean build with a good frame for adding strength. RHH. Toe tap stride, rotational backside. Lower ½ works fine in swing. Hands barrel in solid position to launch. Can take a more direct path to baseball, minor length to swing, occ lacks barrel control. Solid contact off barrel at times. 7.77 60. Defensively has avg actions with good 1st step, moves well to baseball. WBA arm strength presently, arm works fine, would benefit from a long toss program to add arm strength. Overall physically needs strength. A lot to like for this 2027 grad.

Jackson Avery C / OF / Timber Creek, TX / 2025

Good build/frame to add strength, lower showing strength now. Switch hitter. LHH…wide base with toe tap start. Rotational spin with backside. Bat starts flat with some length caused by slight wrap behind the neck. Scoop path. Needs to develop a more direct path to baseball, working for line drive contact. RHH..no stride approach, presets weight to backside with hands past back foot. Lacks rhythm to swing. Barrel starts with wrap, length to swing. Similar to the LH approach, it would benefit from developing a more direct path to baseball with barrel. 6.72 60. Defensively moves well to baseball. BA present arm strength, will be at least fringe avg in future. Front hip opens early, costing him some present arm strength. JC’s should be watching progress

Gavin McPherson 2B / OF / Lubbock Cooper, TX / 2026

Good build now with ability to add more strength. LHH…starts with an open stance with knee lift on line stride. Backside works in swing. Hands and barrel in good launch position, long swing with slight barrel dump. Bat speed present. 6.63 60. Moves fine to ball in OF with BA present arm strength, at times doesn’t stay behind the baseball with hand. Infield shows solid 1st step, decent actions fielding. Same arm strength seen in infield. Watch progress/development.

Carter Noland 2B / C / Jesuit College Prep, TX / 2026

Good build with room to add strength. Starts with an open stance, strides on line with the mound. Gets to the backside, good movement with backside showing linear movement. I like the swing, gets into solid launch position, and shows bat speed. Shows ability to find baseball with the barrel. Line drive contact with pull power coming. Moved to baseball fine in OF, arm works, will have fringe avg arm in future. Infield shows good 1st step, fair actions, hands are solid. Throws show carry, fringe avg future. Schools should monitor progress.

Nolan Wright 1B / 3B / Valley Mills, TX / 2027

Good build to add future strength. Open stance, loads into his backside well. Shows some linear movement to the backside, inconsistent getting to it, when he does, works well. Inward turn with upper creates length to swing, occ barrel dump. Hands work fine swing. Upside to swing if he can get backside to work along with shortening swing path. 7.82 60. Decent actions at 1st, moves fine off bag. Front shoulders flys open early hindering arm strength presently. As with majority 2027’s needs strength and refining of tools. Has ability to work with

Braden Fuentes 1B / OF / Kingwood, TX / 2025

Strength present with room to add more. Hard contact off barrel, bat speed present with strength. 104 exit velo. Simple movement with lower ½ getting into position to hit. Rotational backside. Hands and barrel start in a good position, works to get on plane early in swing. Cuts swing off on occasion. I like the hard contact, it’s different off his barrel. I would love to see him take a more direct path to baseball and getting on plane with that movement instead of dropping hands and barrel early getting on plane. Feel like he’s costing himself some hard  contact consistency. Solid at 1st with decent actions, throws show carry, will have fringe avg arm strength in future. JC’s should be watching his progress, chance to impact baseball.

Cole Marshall 1B / OF / Lubbock Cooper, TX / 2026

Thick build with strength to lower, room to add strength present. Showed abv avg bat and hand speed. RHH…Wide stance, picks up stride foot and sets back down to slightly closed, gets to backside. Rotational backside swing works fine. Hands/barrel in a good launch position. Good path to baseball with slight barrel dump at contact. Got a chance to come into some power in future. 6.69 60. Moves well to baseball for big body. Arm works fine with throws showing some carry. Fringe avg future. 1B good 1st step with solid actions. Has an idea for footwork at 1st. Schools/JC’s should take a look next summer

Trent Jones SS / RHP / Wylie East, TX / 2026

Good build with frame to add strength. Slightly crouched stance. Sinks in backside with stride getting into good position to hit. Backside works fine, slight linear movement with backside. High hands with barrel straight up, dead stop start with hands/barrel. Decent path to baseball with hands and barrel, loses barrel down near the point of contact. Lot to like with swing, some adjustments needed to maximize ability. Does have hand speed. 7.25 60. Infield has decent 1st step and footwork moving to ball, doesn’t play thru baseball when fielding with consistency. Hands are okay. Opportunities to improve defensively. WBA arm strength presently, lacks arm speed. Needs a long toss program to increase arm strength.

RHP…full circle that works fine to the backside, inconsistent slot/release point. Fair delivery, floats thru balance point. FB 77, SL 66, CB 64 showing some feel for pitch. Needs strength development along with refinement of tools to achieve. Hitter over pitcher for me at this time.

Kellan McWhinnie RHP / 1B / Plano East, TX / 2027

Large frame to add strength, lower shows some strength now. Showed bat and hand speed with power potential. Avg width stance with quick, slight drawback toe tap. Lower ½ gets in a solid position. Hands/barrel in good position to hit. Some length to swing, barrel dump at times. Needs to work on a more direct path to baseball. 7.61 60. 1B showed solid actions overall, moved fine to baseball. Throws showed carry.

On the mound, showed full circle with fair arm speed. Solid delivery with a slight cross step with decent finish. FB 78-80, CB 63-65 lacking quality spin at this time, CH 65 has quality action. 2027 who is just starting to develop. Needs strength and time. Saw some good things for him to work with.
