Brandon Gowins
Texas Scouting Director

TEXAS - On Sunday, October 6th, we hosted the Dallas Fall ID at Ryan High School. The day started with position players running 60's, then throwing from defensive positions. We then went into BP, and finished with bullpens where pitchers recorded TrackMan data. Today, we take a look at some f the standouts from the day.

QUICK HITS

JD Channell SS / RHP / Mansfield Knights - Home School, TX / 2026

Channell has really made a big impression in the last month. At State Games, he was super sharp on the mound in his two innings and was up to 88. On Sunday, he showed he can play in the field some as well. While I think his ultimate future is on the mound, Channell showed good actions on the dirt and some pull side power at the plate.  Channell has the arm to play anywhere on the infield. He moved well laterally and played with good rhythm.  At the plate, Channell had a max exit velo of 97.9 and showed off above avg. bat speed. When he stayed in the big part of the field, he showed the ability to really impact the baseball. On the mound, Channell doesn’t throw anything straight. He has a heavy fastball that is tough to square up and a developing breaking ball.  The changeup is the game changer. He has confidence in the pitch and it will throw it R on R.  His fastball has been up to 88 and projects for more. He has flown under the radar, but it is time for schools to get to know Channell.

David Dagnino SS / 2B / Trinity, TX / 2026

Dagnino showed well in all phases on Sunday. The Jr. from Euless Trinity ran well to start his day by posting a 6.78.  On the dirt he showed good actions with an avg. arm.  He moved well laterally.  At the plate, Dagnino was at his best when he stayed in the big part of the field with a line drive approach. He has the ability to drive the ball into the gaps and use his speed for plenty of extra base hits.  Good first viewing of Dagnino.

Jackson Fetters RHP / 3B / China Spring, TX / 2027

The sophomore from China Spring is one of the top arms in Texas for the 2027 class, but on Sunday Fetters showed his position player skills off. He was really fluid on the dirt and showed good range.  He probably profiles best as a 3rd baseman long term, but he will have more than enough arm to play there. At the plate, Fetters has a simple swing with not alot of wasted motion. He can generate easy juice and shows the ability to backspin the baseball.  Fetters highest upside may be on the mound, but he showed well with the glove and bat on Sunday.

Andrew Humphries C / 3B / Billy Ryan High School, TX / 2027

Another one I saw for the first time was Humphries. The sophomore really stood out during his throwdowns. He showed good footwork to go with an above average arm. He was right around 2.0 consistently. At the plate, Humphries showed some  pull side juice.  He really rotates and generates some bat speed, as long as he stays in the big part of the field, Humphries has a chance to hit at a high level.  Only a sophomore, Humphries will be one to follow moving forward.

Jax Lane C / SS / Lubbock Cooper, TX / 2027

The two way player from Lubbock showed nicely on Sunday. He played with good bounce and moved well on the dirt. He has an above average arm and was 87 across the diamond. He moved well to both sides and worked well through the baseball.  At the plate, Lane showed a short stroke from the right side and was really good at staying in the big part of the field. He needs to get stronger, but the barrel to ball skills were evident. He also hopped on the mound and showed a mid 80’s fastball with some run.  He had two different breaking balls with distinct shapes.  The curveball had quality depth and he commanded it well throughout the pen. Overall, a really nice day for Lane.
