Mason Brandenberger LHP / OF / Clifton, TX / 2020Rankings StateRank: 84 / POS: 8
2020 LHP Mason Brandenberger (Clifton HS) has no trouble commanding four pitches for a strike. The left-hander has sharpened up his slider a bit since football season ended, now throwing that pitch at 72-73 mph with 2/8 shape. He still dotted up his fastball to both sides of the plate at 80-81 mph, and has elite feel for pitching. His curveball has 1/7 shape with good rotation and depth, while his change up was also quality at 72-73 mph. Brandenberger is one of our favorite arms in the ‘20 class because he can throw any pitch in any count, and whichever school pulls the trigger on him is going to be glad they got him. He plays multiple sports, while his competitiveness and presence also set him apart. |
Rhett McCaffety LHP / OF / Cy Fair , TX / 2020Rankings StateRank: 133 / POS: 12
Fastball sat at 82-84 and topped at 86. The left-hander works from a high slot and gets some downward plane on his fastball that created soft ground outs. His curveball varies between 12/6 and 1/7 action at 71-73 mph. Works mostly to his arm side with his fastball, coming in late with two strikes. Earned the complete game victory with 15 strikeouts, allowing only 1 ER on 3 H, and 3 BB |
Kenton Weiland LHP / The Woodlands, TX / 2020Rankings StateRank: 187 / POS: 17
Weiland stands at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, lean, projectable body. The southpaw starts with closed off stance atop the mound, slight cross body delivery with higher 3/4 slot after short arm swing. Fastball up to 84 mph, sat at 81-83, spun curveball at 77-78, slider at 76-77, and showed 77-80 mph changeup. |
Colin Hudson LHP / Marcus, TX / 2020Rankings StateRank: 207 / POS: 19
6-foot, 150-pounds. The left-hander has a long, loose arm swing with a high release point that creates angle on his fastball at 81-83 mph. Releases his changeup from the same window with fastball arm speed at 72-74 mph. Throws a 1/7 curveball at 64-66 mph. |
Joshua Cordova LHP / OF / Klein Collins, TX / 2020Rankings StateRank: 255 / POS: 22
Uncommitted. Estimated 5-foot-10, 165 pound, wiry frame. Left-hander with a slow delivery to the plate from the windup. Fastball sat 78-80, touching 81. Was 1.3 home-to-plate from the stretch with a slide step. Would also use a high leg kick with runner on 1st to keep them off balance as well. Curveball had some slurve action to it, ranging from 67-71. Induced plenty of soft contact and bad swings on the curveball. At the plate, short, compact left-handed swing with good opposite field approach. |
