This fall we had a chance to watch 2017 OF Tristen Lutz (Arlington Martin HS), in action on several occasions, including local and national events. Lutz, a Texas commit, stands 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, is currently ranked #73 in our PBR Draft 100. In Jupiter, Lutz's game was on full display in front of hundreds of scouts. The senior outfielder displayed premium bat speed and all-around athleticism on day four, beginning the day with a double off the bottom of the wall in left field that may have been a home run had it not been hit directly into a stiff breeze. The strong, athletic senior added two more base hits and finished the day 3-for-3 with a stolen base. Lutz has tremendous range and has shown the ability to track down balls from gap-to-gap this fall.

PBR: What was your summer experience like?

TL: It was a lot of fun traveling and playing against other great players from around the country. It's always great to meet new people and form new friendships.

PBR: What are your high school team's expectations for the spring?

TL: Our goals are to be the best team we can possibly be and have fun. We want to win state and feel that if we reach our full potential we have a good shot.

PBR: What are your personal goals as you look ahead?

TL: I want to do whatever is best for the team to win.

PBR: What part of your game do you think you need to improve the most?

TL: I plan to get better in every part of the game. There is always room for improvements. My defense is probably the part I need to put more emphasis.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you faced?

TL: Hans Crouse (Dana Hills HS, CA) and Southern California commit. He is a really good pitcher with plus pitches and really knows how to throw the batters off their timing.

PBR: What are your interests outside of baseball?

TL: I like to workout, hang out with friends and family, and go to the movies.

PBR: Is there another player you model your game after?

TL: Mike Trout. He is a true 5 tool player that seems to always effect the game in some way. He is also a great person off the field which is very important as well.

PBR: What was on your checklist when you were looking for a college program?

TL: I wanted to make sure I could see myself there not only as a baseball player but a student. Also, I wanted to feel comfortable with the coaches. Academics were also important, I wanted to go to a school with good academics.

PBR: What drew you to commit to the school you picked?

TL: I love Austin as a city and could really see myself there. I also felt very comfortable with the coaches. When I stepped on campus I knew it was the school for me.

PBR: Is there a moment or achievement so far in your career that stands out from the rest?

TL: Making it to the state championship game was a moment I will never forget. It will always drive me to do more so we can close the deal this time around.
