The Woodlands vs. Cy Creek and Kingwood Park

KINGWOOD, TX - The Woodlands finished off their trip to the Humble ISD tournament with games vs. Cy Creek and Kingwood Park.
The first game was kicked off early with a two-run home run from ‘20 catcher Drew Romo (LSU commit) in the 1st inning and a grand slam from ‘20 DH/RHP Josh Ekness in the 2nd. ‘19 IF Daunte Stuart (Northwestern St. commit) had two RBI base knocks in the game contributing to the 12-1 win.
On the mound, ‘19 RHP/IF Zach Escovedo threw 3.1 IP allowing one earned on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. ‘19 RHP Elijah Kemeny threw the final 1.1 IP allowing just one hit and no runs.

The second game of the day is where Ekness showed his stuff on the mound. The uncommitted 2020 right-hander, listed at 6-foot-3 shows projectability to his wiry frame. He throws from a high ¾ slot with a whippy arm swing. His fastball was 85-87 mph, touching 88 mph early on and settled in at 84-86 mph. Flashed command of the pitch to both sides of the plate but lost his command with four walks in the 4th inning. Complementing the fastball, Ekness flashed an 11-5 curveball at 72-73 mph and throwing it to both sides of the plate. At the plate, he showcases a long, effortless swing with easy power.
Offensively for the Highlanders against Kingwood Park, Evan Perez led the way with two RBI while Cameron Caley, Matt Bulovas, Kole Robinson and Ekness each had one RBI.
