Texas: Rascon Battles Control
March 11, 2019
MELISSA, TX—After an early morning storm, the weather broke on Saturday with bright blue skies and warm temperatures—perfect conditions to watch baseball. At the Melissa Sports Complex, I saw LHP Bodi Rascon (Decatur HS, TX). While he was far from perfect, he still has a lot of attributes to like. He has an excellent frame at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds with athleticism and projection. His arm is quick through a 3/4 slot, producing a fastball up to 92 mph in the first inning. Unfortunately, some poor defense and then the control bug bit him and he was done after four innings, having allowed seven runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out four. The secondary stuff remains in development, but his athleticism, projection and relative freshness makes him a virtual blank slate to work with.
After Rascon, we returned to Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco to see 3B Logan Kohler (Little Elm HS, TX) one more time. He didn’t collect a hit, going 0-for-3 with a walk, but he continued to put good swings on the ball with his short, quick stroke. He won’t remain at short in the long term, but he is athletic enough to hold the position down now with good footwork, soft hands and an average arm.
